The Orange County Utilities Communications Group is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Digital Communications Editor . This position creates digital communication materials and campaigns for the Utilities Department and may have the ability to perform some work remotely with a hybrid work schedule.
Work is performed with independent judgment and self-initiative under the general supervision of the Utilities Supervisor, and performance is evaluated on accuracy, efficiency, and achievement of desired results.
Representative Duties
- Create web-based content for Orange County’s intranet and public facing websites, while ensuring compliance with
Section 508 federal ADA guidelines
- Act as the Utilities Department liaison with Information Systems and Services and the Office of Communications on
Orange County’s public facing website
- Create employee newsletters, meeting all editorial processes and deadlines
- Provide communications assistance, such as researching, writing, and coordinating graphics, photography, and videography
- Assist in developing marketing and community outreach campaign materials (videos, posters, displays, presentations, etc.) to support organizational objectives
- Support content-rich branded initiatives through images/videos across Orange County’s social media platforms and maintain best practices while doing so
- Assist with monitoring and responding to department-related inquiries and messages on social media platforms
- Compile social media analytics to evaluate campaign effectiveness
- Work in a team environment and cross-functionally with various government departments
- Perform copy editing and proofreading tasks
- Participate in emergency activities and responses
- Perform other related work as required
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a closely related field and four years of professional experience in content management solutions, social media, public relations, journalism, writing, or other closely related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Hours per week: 40
Working Hours: Monday – Friday / 8:00am – 5:00pm / May need to work nights, weekends, and holidays
