Orbital is currently seeking an experienced Mid-Level Civil Designer to assist with single and multi-discipline projects in our Houston Office. The position requires demonstrated design ability and competency with AutoCAD and other CAD tools preferably in a consulting environment, for heavy industrial engineering projects in the oil and gas, chemical, power, and metals industries.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ability to work in the field within heavy industrial facilities
- Ability to walk one to two miles in industrial facilities
- Ability to work in elevated work conditions
- Ability to perform field surveying, take measurements, reference from known or temporary benchmarks, and create detailed field notes and sketches of existing site layout, concrete and steel structures.
- Perform structural inspections of existing facility steel structures and fireproofing according to Orbital Engineering guidelines.
- Prepare conceptual drawings, sketches and material take-offs of concrete and steel.
- Assist engineering by creating detailed design drawings of various layouts for industrial facilities including: foundation design, grading plans, underground piping/drainage, structural steel piperack and support design and details
- Assist the Civil/Structural Engineering department by reviewing vendor shop/fabrication drawings.
- Update design drawings from redline mark ups
- Structural steel engineering plans, sections and details for pipe racks, pipe supports, platforms and miscellaneous support structures
- Field engineering and structural inspections as they relate to work scope
Desired skills include but are not limited to:
- AutoCAD 2D & AutoCAD Plant 3D
- 3D Modeling of structures
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- CadWorx
- Self-starter, works independently with little direction
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software including CAD systems, Microsoft Office products and design software
Education and Credentials:
- High school diploma is required and/or a degree from a technical trade school
- Three to ten years civil/structural drafting and design experience
- Advanced 3D training is a plus
