Mortgage Underwriting Manager

About the Role

Orchard is looking for a Mortgage Underwriter Manager to join our expanding team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring our loans meet GSE and internal loan requirements. You will need to work fast and efficiently, while maintaining exceptional quality and communication with internal partners. 

This is a full time role that will report into the Senior Mortgage Operations Manager and be based out of our Austin, TX office with the option to be remote in AZ, CO, CT, GA, MD,  NC, TX, WA, MI.

What You’ll Do Here:

• Oversee the process to ensure efficiencies are maximized, accuracy is achieved, and time frames are met for all underwriting functions. 
• Hold team accountable for turn times on mortgage applications. 
• Ensure loans are underwritten in accordance with underwriting standards, risk management factors and guidelines established by secondary market investors and agency guidelines. 
• Enable team to prioritize urgent files that are at risk of missing key loan milestones
• Maintain working knowledge of underwriting guidelines and mortgage compliance, while staying current on all GSE updates
• Act as a mentor and coach to our Loan Processors, and provide working solutions to our Loan Officers to improve file quality and salability
• Create reporting that enables you to see where each loan is in the underwriting pipeline. 
• Review Conventional Mortgage and Home Equity loan applications, and clearly communicate the loan decisions and/or requirements to all parties
• Act as an escalation point for clients, loan officers and co-workers to facilitate a prompt, efficient closing of each loan. 
• Work with necessary parties to resolve post closing audits.

We’d Love to Hear From You if You Have:

• 7 years of experience underwriting conventional 1st mortgage loans
• 3 years of underwriting appraisals
• 3 years of underwriting Self Employed borrowers using a cash flow analysis
• A Direct Endorsement from FHA 
• Ability to manage and monitor your loan pipeline while working independently 
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and collaboration skills 
• Ability to quickly learn new technology systems, and provide critical feedback
• Experience working with Google Suites is helpful
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in relating to internal and external clients
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high production environment
