Initial Posting Date: 04/14/2022 Application Deadline: 05/05/2022 Agency: Oregon Business Development Department Salary Range: $4,863 - $7,442 Position Type: Employee Position Title: Program Analyst 2 Job Description: Business Oregon, the agency that houses the Oregon Arts Commission, is currently hiring an Art Collection & Artist Services Specialist (Program Analyst 2). This position will manage artist materials and records of the State’s Percent for Art in Public Places collection, oversee the condition and location of artwork and provide service to the public, client agencies, artists and contract project managers in the specialized area of expertise related to public art, collections management and visual arts. The position also conducts curatorial activities and research related to the Art in Public Places Program, in addition to coordinating the Art in the Governor’s Office exhibition series, supporting artists programs, and special projects related to services for artists. Note: We value our employees and want to encourage work-life balance and flexibility. This position may have the ability to work remotely with required days in the Salem office every other week. This position is required to do site visits to different state buildings and universities for projects and the inventory process; access paper files in the Salem office; in addition to the Governor’s Office program on site installation. What the Oregon Arts Commission does: The Oregon Arts Commission provides leadership, funding and arts programs through its grants, special initiatives, and services. Nine commissioners, appointed by the Governor, determine arts needs and establish policies for public support of the arts. The Arts Commission became part of the Oregon Business Development Department (Business Oregon) in 1993, in recognition of the expanding role the arts play in the broader social, economic, and educational arenas of Oregon communities. In 2003, the Oregon legislature moved the operations of the Oregon Cultural Trust to the Arts Commission, streamlining operations and making use of the Commission’s expertise in grantmaking, arts and cultural information and community cultural development. What you will do: Oversee procedures and develop systems related to accessioning new artworks into the public art collection, ensuring artworks in the collection are accurately tracked, and coordinating relocations, deaccessions, maintenance and conservation of artworks. Communicate with state agencies, artists, and conservators to provide information about artworks in the collection, document and research the collection and advise regarding fine art installation, display and collection standards. Assist with implementing calls for art for the Art in Public Places program and selection of qualified artists for the Oregon Art in Public Places Roster, including research and communication with artists/representatives. Coordinate the Art in the Governor’s Office program including overseeing artist selection process; coordinating installation and de-installation of artwork with artists, Governor’s Office, Capitol Facilities, and art handlers; and publicity efforts. Support implementation of artist programs including Career Opportunity and Individual Artist Fellowships. Provide assistance for special projects, including administrative support to grant program coordinators, conducting research related to artist services and creating and publishing content on the Visual Arts Ecology Project website. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of some or all of the following skills: Demonstrated ability to effectively administer fine art or museum collections management systems and practices. Positive attitude with an interest in continued learning and professional growth. Knowledge in contemporary arts practices and procedures, including fine arts materials, terms, and conservation practices. Ability to build and maintain good working relationship with stakeholders including funders, artists, conservation professionals, art handlers, state agency representatives, facilities managers, risk management professionals and/or government officials. Curatorial experience and/or exhibition coordination. Knowledge of and interest in public art practices and processes. Strong communication skills including written and oral presentations, analysis, facilitation, and negotiation skills. Proficiency with computer software and specifically Adobe Creative Suite. What you need to qualify: A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a degree related to an arts field such as Art History, Curatorial Practice or museum Studies and two years experience coordinating or administering a program OR Any combination of experience or education equivalent to five years of experience that typically supports the knowledge and skill requirements listed for the classification.
