Job Posting for Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor at Oregon Health & Science University

Department Overview

The Knight Cancer Institute (KCI) at Oregon Health & Science University, an NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center serving the state of Oregon, is seeking exceptional faculty candidates for tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks. Given the exceptional growth in cancer research, the KCI now includes the newly formed Division of Oncological Science (DOS) that provides an academic home for cross-disciplinary cancer research that leverages team science and collaboration (https://www.ohsu.edu/oncological-sciences). DOS includes four sections representing research areas and scientific disciplines that support innovation and translation of discovery to impact cancer patients and the broader population we serve. The Cancer Population Science (CPS) section of DOS is now looking for outstanding independent investigators committed to addressing the most challenging cancer prevention and control problems in populations with or at risk of cancer and across the translational continuum.

The Knight Cancer Institute is a pioneer in personalized cancer medicine and an international leader in research and cancer treatment.  The KCI envisions a world freed from the burden of cancer by working together to make bold advances in understanding cancer biology, detection, treatment, and survival.  Join the KCI and work with us to end cancer as we know it. We offer highly competitive recruitment packages, strong institutional commitment to faculty support, comprehensive benefits, relocation services, and rewarding work and life environment. The DOS and the Knight Cancer Institute aim to be the workplace of choice nationally and internationally for individuals to reach their potential and perform the most innovative research, education, and care in service to our patients, students, workforce, and community. We inform our work by the needs and the input of our geographically and racially diverse state and strive for a mission-driven work environment; diverse in people and ideas, equitable in opportunities, and promoting a climate of respect and trust. We instill these principles throughout our workplace culture, clinical care, educational programs, community engagement, and research activities.

Every Knight Cancer employee is expected to embody our guiding principles:

  • We act BOLDLY—Breakthroughs require pushing the boundaries of science, exploring new frontiers, and thinking differently
  • We SUPPORT each other—Respect leads to trust, which leads to excellence
  • We work as a CONNECTED team — We must leverage our collective brain power to conquer cancer because no one individual can do it alone

Function/Duties of Position

CPS includes researchers interested in studying genetics, behaviors, and exposures at a population level that increase the risk of developing cancer and conduct cancer prevention and control intervention studies with individuals, communities, healthcare systems, and populations. CPS researchers collaborate with basic, clinical, and population health researchers. Co-location with other sections in DOS fosters dynamic collaborations. At the same time, shared resources across the KCI, CTSA, and OHSU provide abundant access to state-of-the-art tools, approaches, and cohorts for innovative science.  We are particularly interested in adding faculty with expertise in epidemiology, genetics, behavioral science, implementation science, and community-engaged research.  Exciting research areas rich for collaboration include cancer and aging, cancer and the microbiome, cancer symptom science, digital technology, and eHealth. Research experience with underserved populations, particularly Hispanic/Latino or American Indian/Alaska Native, is desirable. Previous experience and/or leadership within an NCI designated cancer center is also desired.

Required Qualifications

To qualify for this role, you must have a PhD or MD/PhD. At the Assistant Professor level, you must have relevant postdoctoral research experience and a strong record of research accomplishments that include publications in high-quality journals. At the Associate or Professor level, you must have an established and funded research program and demonstrated ability to mentor others.
