Litter Patrol plays an important role in the Operations Department to keep the public and non- public facing areas clean and tidy for our employees and guests. This position provides a great opportunity to have fun in a team environment, showcase your guest service skills and expand your skillset.

Schedules vary based on weather and events at the zoo. Hours increase during Zoolights, school breaks, holidays and summer season. We are currently looking for applicants who are available to work at least four days per week.

What you will do:

  • Pick up litter and ensure that the zoo grounds are clean and ready for daily operation
  • Empty and refresh trash and recycling containers across zoo grounds
  • Ensure train passenger cars are clean and ready for daily operation
  • Collect recycling and trash at outdoor dining areas.

  • Ability to walk, stand and work on concrete surfaces for extended periods of time Comfort working outdoors in heat, cold and inclement weather
  • Ability to push, pull, lift and carry up to 40 pounds on a regular basis and up to 80 pounds occasionally
  • Availability to work irregular hours, including holidays, evenings and weekends

Minimum qualifications:
  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities
Work Environment: Based on business need of this role, it is variable hour that is not able to exceed 1040 hours in a 12-month calendar period. This position includes working some nights, weekends, and holidays. Work outdoors in the heat, cold and inclement weather are expected.

This variable hour position is eligible for overtime and represented and by the union LiUNA Local 483. It is classified as Litter Patrol. Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the positions.

These positions are classified as variable hour. Variable hour employees cannot work more than 1,040 hours per year.
