What are the responsibilities and job description for the ASOSU Deputy Chief of Staff position at Oregon State University?
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Deputy Chief of Staff position for the Associated Students of Oregon State University (ASOSU) at Oregon State University (OSU).
The role of the Deputy Chief of Staff is to collaborate and assist in the facilitation of the ASOSU Executive Branch. This position will work on the ASOSU Chief of Staff’s team to assist in the creation of agendas, facilitating meetings, overseeing the four pilot lounge coordinators, and directly work on the President and Vice President’s policy priorities.
The Deputy Chief of Staff will assist Executive Branch members on ASOSU outreach events that will help create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of the OSU community.

For Context, ASOSU is Oregon State University’s student government; it comprises three branches (the legislative, judicial, and executive). This position is a one-year appointment to the executive branch to support the policy priorities of the President and Vice President.
As a member of the Executive Branch, your position includes the following duties but is subject to change based on evolving requirements, emergent situations, or circumstances.
- Directly work on implementing the current ASOSU President and Vice President’s policy priorities;
- Support the Chief of Staff in their day-to-day operations and work on behalf of the student government;
- Oversee the four pilot coordinators and assist in the event planning and operations of the Disabled Student Pilot Lounge and International Student Pilot Lounge;
- Assist with scheduling and organizing meetings, events, and other ASOSU activities;
- Collaborate with other members of the Executive Branch to develop and implement programs and initiatives for the student body.
Administrative Tasks:
- Organize Executive Branch staff meetings including All Staff, Cabinet, Pilot Lounge, and Director meetings;
- Attend other Executive Branch team meetings including Policy Team, Diversity Team, and Student Engagement Team Meetings;
- Attend Senate committee meetings that pertain to the position or policies of this position; once a term provide a report to the ASOSU Senate;
- Assist the Chief of Staff by providing relevant input during expenditure processes;
- Send the Chief of Staff a schedule of working hours at the beginning of each academic term;
- Meet with the ASOSU Advisor bi-weekly for one-on-one meetings;
- Meet regularly with the ASOSU President and Vice President.
Other Initiatives:
It is required that all Executive Branch staff members be available to work on organization-wide initiatives like ASOSU Office Open Houses, Campus-wide Voter Registration Drives, and others assigned by the ASOSU President and Vice President.
Minimum Qualifications

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
- International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

- Experience working with ASOSU, or other organizations focusing on student advocacy, campus involvement, diversity and inclusion, or other related areas.
