The Department of Agricultural Education and Agricultural Sciences invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Instructor position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
This Instructor is responsible for teaching undergraduate advising and teaching of undergraduate agricultural sciences and leadership courses as part of the joint College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS), Agricultural Education and Agricultural Sciences Department (AgEd/AgSci), and OSU Agriculture and Natural Resource Program (EOANRP) at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) in La Grande, OR. Promotion for this position will be within the Agricultural Education and Agricultural Sciences Department.
This Instructor is responsible for teaching undergraduate advising and teaching of undergraduate agricultural sciences and leadership courses as part of the joint College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS), Agricultural Education and Agricultural Sciences Department (AgEd/AgSci), and OSU Agriculture and Natural Resource Program (EOANRP) at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) in La Grande, OR. Promotion for this position will be within the Agricultural Education and Agricultural Sciences Department.
This position is housed and supervised by the Eastern Oregon Agriculture and Natural Resource Program in La Grande, OR.
The OSU Agriculture & Natural Resource Program at EOU is a cooperative partnership between Oregon State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Eastern Oregon University. The OSU Ag & NR Program was developed to help serve the needs of the communities and entities of eastern Oregon and the Intermountain West. EOU has approximately 4,000 students. La Grande has a population of about 12,500 and is located about 260 miles east of Portland, OR, and 170 miles northwest of Boise, ID, the closest cities.

60% Teaching/Course Development
Develop and teach 4 to 6 courses per year, some will be on an annual rotation. Courses may be delivered in-person, online, or hybrid/remote campuses.
Conduct and develop a dynamic teaching program for undergraduate and graduate students as assigned by the EOANRP Director and the AgEd/AgSci Department. Course instruction may include Information Technology in Agriculture, Writing in Agriculture, Introduction to Agricultural Education, Agricultural Safety and Health, Social Media Advocacy In Ag Sciences & Natural Resources, Personal Leadership Development, Leadership Skills For Career Success, and CAS Ambassador Seminar.
Develop and communicate, via scholarly work, teaching methods and learning outcomes. Contribute to undergraduate student teaching in the EOANRP program. Duties include all responsibilities related to teaching Agricultural Education/Agricultural Sciences/Leadership courses: preparing and presenting course content, lecturing, grading, keeping office hours for one-on-one student assistance and mentoring. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion, including efforts promoting equitable outcomes among learners of diverse and underrepresented identity groups.
Assist in the collection of Agricultural Education and Agricultural Sciences Department curriculum assessment data.
15% Advising
Participate in advising and mentoring students to assist in the successful completion of their academic and research programs. Maintain accurate, secure, and up-to-date student records and notes.
Serve as Advisor for EOANRP Ag Ambassador.
10% Recruitment
Assist in active student recruiting effort involving all OSU faculty at EOU, other associated faculty in the state and the Ambassador program.
10% Agricultural Education
Assist Director of Agriculture Teacher Education in development of teacher candidates, K-12 classroom placement visits and other supervision of graduate students.
5% Service
Participate as a collegial member of their unit, and perform appropriate service that contributes to the effectiveness, diversity and inclusiveness of the departments, college, the University, and the profession.
Support CAS and OSU through participation on committees and other administrative activities.
Interact with staff, stakeholders, and professional colleagues to promote student learning and effective teaching.
Participate in professional conferences that promote teaching and learning in the discipline, committees in EOANRP, AgEd/AgSci, the college, and university as appropriate, and other service activities.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Agricultural Education or in related areas of agriculture and education.
Demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom, extension, or other formal or non-formal educational settings.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
PhD or terminal degree in Education, Agricultural Education, or related field.
Demonstrated experience teaching high school agriculture and/or CTE.
Ability to provide mentoring and feedback to agriculture teacher candidates and early career agriculture teachers.
Demonstrated ability to teach in agricultural education, leadership, and agricultural sciences and natural resource communications.
Demonstrated engagement with students through experiential learning, extra-curricular activities, research, and/or mentoring.
Assisting in monitoring of Agricultural Education candidates will require state-wide travel/driving.
