What are the responsibilities and job description for the PNW Technical Assistant position at Oregon State University?
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant position for the Corvallis Forestry Sciences Laboratory at Oregon State University (OSU).
This temporary student position involves working as a member of a research team conducting research in wildlife and forest ecology in the Pacific Northwest, including research on small mammals and mesocarnivores. Work is primarily office based and administrative, and may include entering field data into electronic formats, organizing electronic and hard copy files, proofing data, creating tables and graphs, writing reports, repairing and organizing field equipment, and summarizing and analyzing data, and preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed science journals. There may be occasional opportunity to participate in field data collection as need arises and there is interest.
Position Duties

Student will be mentored by researchers from the U.S. Forest Service, PNW Research Station.

Additional Required Qualifications Preferred (Special) Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications (any one or more):
- Experience summarizing and analyzing electronic data
- GIS coursework or experience.
- Programming coursework or experience (R or Python)
- Statistics coursework or experience.
- An interest in wildlife or ecological research.
- Field data collection associated with research or monitoring.
- Participation in field research may require ability to navigate in steep, rugged terrain in all weather conditions.
Research is based out of the Corvallis Forestry Sciences Laboratory in Corvallis, OR. This will be a virtual position until the laboratory is fully re-opened following the latest Covid-19 guidelines outlined by the US Department of Agriculture, including proof of full vaccination for Covid-19.
