Position Summary:
The Diener is responsible for preparing the autopsy room for procedures and assists with the autopsy procedure to facilitate the performance for the pathologist and residents.
Responsibilities:
Receives and accessions pathology specimens using the HIS and LIS.
Inventories, files and disposes of pathology specimens.
Organizes and loads tissue specimens on tissue processors.
Triages frozen sections in a manner which will expedite their processing.
Slide and block filing.
Retrieves tissue specimens, tissue blocks or slides as requested by the pathologists, residents or supervisors for further study.
Performs and documents solution changes on tissue processors and stainers, maintain all instruments and work areas in a clean functional condition.
Reports any environmental or mechanical issues to Engineering or Biomed via work order.
Other functions which may be assigned include: filing, requisitions, reports, prepare cytology specimens, retrieval and faxing reports to doctor offices, locating and preparing blocks and slides for send out to outside organizations for review or additional procedures.

- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
