What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructional Assistant position at Orleans Southwest?
The Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Instructional Assistant as a 1:1 support person. The anticipated assignment location is at Craftsbury Schools. Changes in assignments and locations, while not anticipated, could occur based on need. This is a full-time position that falls into the Master Agreement for Support Staff with full benefits. Instructional Assistants assigned to work with students who meet the IEP criteria of intensive needs are eligible for additional earnings.
Instructional Assistants become familiar with the academic approach and requirements of the teacher and the program, and all instructional, non-instructional, and adaptive materials and equipment utilized in the program. Instructional Assistants support students in non-classroom settings both on and off campus as needed.
Some essential functions are:
-Assisting individual and small groups of students with academic/learning/and/or vocational/job-related tasks per Individualized Education Plan, Section 504 plan, and/or classroom teacher’s direction.
-Becoming familiar with the academic approach and requirements of the teacher and the program, and all instructional, non-instructional, and adaptive materials and equipment utilized in the program.
-Assisting and supervising students during non-instructional and out-of-classroom activities (e.g., in the lunchroom or hall, getting on/off the bus, during art, music, library, or P.E. times, outdoor settings, field trips, etc.), and as the teacher works with groups or individuals.
1:1 duties for a student with extraordinarily high needs as required by the student's IEP Team, per the student 504 plan, or another support plan. The threshold for this stipend is any of the following areas: assistance with basic functional skills (i.e. toileting, mobility, feeding, dressing), a safety concern for themselves or others, intense behaviors that occur frequently and at an intensity that significantly affects health and safety, school activities and participation in social activities, being medically fragile, or requires specialized communication equipment where additional training, documentation, and support is required.

Salary : $33,200 - $42,000
