Position Summary
Driver Class A operates a heavy duty truck, which is greater than three tons rated capacity and usually has three or more axels to haul loads for distances less than 250 miles.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Drives truck to destination.
- Maintains physical security of cargo to prevent shifting and damage.
- Prepares receipts for material delivered.
- Collects payments for goods delivered and for delivery charges when required.
- Maintains truck log, according to state and federal regulations.
- Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil and water.
- Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
- Loads and unloads truck.
- Performs emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, tire chains, and spark plugs.
- Unloads product at customer’s facilities.
- Inspects product and checks accuracy of both product and quantities delivered.
- Picks up product at customers and suppliers, checks product and quantities for accuracy.
- Processes clear and accurate paperwork.
- Operates auxiliary equipment mounted on truck such as hydraulics, hoist, etc.
- Performs other duties and / or responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience :
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum of 2-years local city delivery experience
- Class A license and a valid DOT Medical Card
- Acceptable DMV report
- Must be forklift certified within sixty days from hire
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
