General Statement of Duties:

The Scanning Specialist is responsible for ensuring all medical documents are scanned or uploaded into the electronic medical record system. The Scanning Specialist indexes all documents according to image type in patients’ charts. The Specialist coordinates closely with the scanning prep team for efficiency and priority scanning.

Essential Duties:

  • Scans medical documentation batches and uploads faxes, maintaining a 24 to 48 hours turnaround time. Responsible for meeting productivity standards set by HIM leadership and department needs.
  • Indexes all medical documentation batches, maintaining a 99% accuracy rating.
  • Immediately resolves scanning and indexing issues. Corrects inaccuracies by moving images from an incorrect patient account and rescanning into correct account. Reports quality issues in the risk management system for quality assurance follow-up.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 1-2 years of related experience required; 2-4 years preferred
