ABC Certified CPO Job Description

Job Overview: Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist

As a Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with limb loss or orthopedic disabilities. Your expertise in designing, fabricating, and fitting prosthetic and orthotic devices will directly impact the mobility, functionality, and well-being of your patients. You will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals, including physicians, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, to provide comprehensive care and support to individuals throughout their rehabilitation journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Assessment:
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of patients' anatomical structure, functional capabilities, and lifestyle needs.
  • Gather relevant medical history and diagnostic information to inform the prosthetic or orthotic treatment plan.
  • Device Design and Fabrication:
  • Utilize advanced technology and materials to design and fabricate custom prosthetic and orthotic devices tailored to individual patient specifications.
  • Ensure optimal fit, comfort, and functionality of devices through precise measurements and adjustments.
  • Patient Education and Counseling:
  • Educate patients and their families on the use, care, and maintenance of prosthetic or orthotic devices.
  • Provide guidance and support to help patients adapt to their new devices and achieve maximum independence.
  • Collaborative Care:
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop comprehensive treatment plans that address patients' physical, psychological, and social needs.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Outcome Evaluation and Follow-Up:
  • Monitor patients' progress and functional outcomes following device fitting, making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance.
  • Conduct regular follow-up appointments to assess device function, patient satisfaction, and address any concerns or issues.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessment findings, treatment plans, and progress notes, in compliance with regulatory standards and documentation requirements.
  • Stay abreast of industry standards, best practices, and regulatory guidelines related to prosthetics and orthotics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics from an accredited program.
  • Certification by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) or Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC).
  • State licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Prosthetist and Orthotist.
  • Strong clinical skills and proficiency in prosthetic and orthotic assessment, design, and fabrication.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care and maintaining the highest standards of ethical practice.
