What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scientist, R&D position at OSRAM?
ams-OSRAM group focuses on creating optical solutions in sensing, illumination, and visualization. The business unit Opto Semiconductors encompasses manufacturing of optical semiconductors, converter materials, and packages. Combining its headquarters in Regensburg, Germany, production sites in Penang and Kulim (Malaysia), and a global network of sales, marketing and RD centers (including New England), the business unit employs over 10,000 people. Our semiconductor emitter products include high-power LEDs in the visible range, high-performance infrared LEDs, and high-power semiconductor lasers, all categorized according to different brightness levels, sizes, and package formats.
ams-OSRAM OS is currently seeking a Scientist to join our Research Development team. The candidate is expected to lead research and technology development projects and guide colleagues. Typical projects focus on improving key parameters of different materials (for example polymers, ceramics, glasses and/or composites) or establish an understanding for moving in novel directions with designed materials solutions used in the packaging of optoelectronic devices. This involves exploiting interrelationships between mechanical/thermal/optical properties, chemical composition, processing, microstructure, defects and the resulting performance. He/she will use a variety of diagnostic methods, investigate preferred precision fabrication operations, and work together with precursor and other external suppliers.
The successful candidate will join a skilled and motivated team for advancing current capabilities, developing new processes, and implementing new technologies. Participating in frequent interactions between research and development, engineering, and production employees is required for efficient implementation of innovations in development and industrialization, and for recommending potential improvements in manufacturing.
Exeter, NH is one of the centers of excellence for polymers, ceramics, glass, and composites within ams-OSRAM. The successful candidate joining the RD team will be involved in the creation of materials and processes at state-of-the-art level to benefit various global business lines of the company.
