Work Schedule 7:30 a to 5:30 p Mon-Fri, 1 night per week till 7 pm and 1 weekend per month.
JOB SUMMARY:
The basic function of the Registrar is to efficiently process all patients according to the standards established by the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
Qualifications:
- Patient Registrar I – minimum of (1) year of experience in the medical field preferred.
- Patient Registrar II – minimum of (3) years’ experience in patient registration/medical reception required.
- Must have excellent organizational, time management and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to work independently and be self-directed as necessary.
- Must be a team player and willing to work with all staff to get the overall job accomplished.
- Must have a willingness to accept change and new ideas as the medical business changes often.
- Ability to demonstrate a professional manner in work setting.
- Ability to hold all information in strict confidence.
- Medical Terminology knowledge preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follows all policies and procedures of OSS, and in particular Admissions and Financial policies and procedures while completing daily tasks.
- Ensures all demographic and insurance information required is gathered and entered into hospital computer system for all patient visits as well as laboratory charges.
- Ensures any pre-certification and pre-authorizations are obtained and documented in the hospital computer system.
- Identifies potential issues regarding authorizations and acts as a liaison with the patient and pre-registration and precertification departments regarding eligibility and authorization issues.
- Collects patient co-pays, co-insurance and/or estimated out-of-pocket expenses, capturing 80% or greater at time of service as required and described in the OSS Financial policy. Responsible for reconciling daily payments.
- Performs reception duties of checking patients in, answering phones, formatting charts and updating patients on status of surgeon delays.
- Demonstrates good judgment in safeguarding OSS information to include confidentiality of all medical and patient information. Adheres to the patient’s Bill of Rights and Confidentiality Information.
- Maintains a positive and professional attitude towards all patients, patients’ family or representatives, co-workers and medical staff.
- Shows flexibility in scheduling as required by the department, including flexibility in work location.
- Recognizes areas or functions that may need improvement and offers suggestions to the appropriate member of management.
- Answers telephones promptly, identifies self and directs calls as appropriate
- Participates in Hospital Greeter’s Desk rotation.
- Registers patients for his/her scheduled visit with the provider. Verifies patient demographic information and updates computer system as needed.
- Scans patient identification and patient insurance card/cards and verifies benefits and eligibility information.
- Travels to other offices when there is an organizational need to provide coverage.
- Maintains a positive and professional attitude towards patients, co-workers and physicians.
- Keeps work area orderly and neat.
- Demonstrates flexibility in performing additional responsibilities that contribute to the improvement of patient care and the well being of the Practice
- Level II:
- Assists in training of newly hired team members.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct reports.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, peers, physicians and the public. Ability to speak and understand English fluently.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Light physical effort; some standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping; manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other equipment; detail oriented; able to maintain a pleasant and courteous demeanor under all circumstances.
