Title: Bilingual Sexual Assault & Human Trafficking Advocate (Case Manager)

Position Status: 1 FTE (37.5 hrs. per week)

Reports to: Program Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

Join the dynamic team at Our VOICE, Buncombe County’s rape crisis and prevention center, supporting people in our community ages 13 who have been impacted by sexual violence and/or human trafficking. Our program, Project WestNC, serves human trafficking survivors in Buncombe, Henderson, McDowell, Madison, Transylvania, and Yancey counties. This position partners with another case-manager to provide case management services for survivors of human trafficking and sexual violence. In addition, this position provides education and outreach to service providers working with survivors of sex and labor trafficking in the region.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in English and Spanish both written and verbal
  • Previous experience providing case management and/or crisis response
  • Commitment to anti-oppression principles in all areas of our internal and external work as well as commitment to self-growth in this area
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with various community partners and diverse populations
  • Knowledge of sexual violence and anti-human trafficking related issues and the systemic root causes and intersections
  • Considerable knowledge of community resources and structure, particularly law enforcement and court-related structures, and willingness to engage with these structures in advocacy of survivors
  • Adaptability to, and understanding of, local community needs and systems
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends back up crisis line shifts)
  • Ability to travel to counties in service area with a reliable vehicle to carry out job tasks
  • Embrace mission of Our VOICE, including commitment to equity and inclusion
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ties with the local community preferred, but not required

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

CASE MANAGEMENT:

  • Provide services in English and Spanish as appropriate
  • Provide intake services and coordinate client needs
  • Provide crisis intervention, support, advocacy and referrals to survivors through the implementation of individualized case plans
  • Provide accompaniment and advocacy within the criminal justice system and other systems related to sexual violence
  • Coordinate care with other service providers to ensure client needs are being met
  • Maintain case management system for survivors of human trafficking and sexual violence including goal setting worksheets for clients and case management evaluation tools; this involves communication and coordination with other service providers
  • Maintain client files and statistics through agency database
  • Provide weekly phone shift coverage of the Crisis Line and respond to walk-in survivors
  • Provide hospital accompaniment to clients who participate in the collection of forensic evidence kits
  • Provide on-call staff back-up on an as-needed basis on nights and weekends

OUTREACH:

  • Provide outreach and education to regional organizations on identifying and responding to human trafficking and sexual violence situations as a member of the Buncombe County Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition
  • Provide outreach and education to the general community about sexual assault and human trafficking
  • Provide best practice resources and support to partner agencies working with sexual assault and human trafficking survivors
  • Maintain respectable and competent rapport/communication with partner agencies
  • Serve as agency representative on committees and task forces, as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

SALARY/BENEFITS:

Salary: $42,900

COVID-19 considerations:
Staff are currently working a hybrid model with a small number of staff coming into the office at a time. Masks are worn at all times. We also are required to have proof of being fully vaccinated or a weekly negative COVID test per County guidance.
