The Jackson Convention Complex is situated in the center of Mississippi’s capital city and the heart of Southern hospitality. The Complex boasts 330,000 square-foot of space that includes 60,000 square feet of exhibit space, 25 meeting rooms, a 382-seat theater, and the 25,000 square-foot Grand Ballroom. 


OVG Facilities, a division of the Oak View Group, is a full-service venue management and event programming company that operates and books arenas, theaters, convention centers, and amphitheaters throughout the U.S. delivering customized management plans for each of their venues.  OVG Facilities specializes in event programming, booking services, and creating unique experiences that focus on providing premium content to enhance the guest’s experience.  


Responsibilities of this Position:

The Operations Manager works with the Director of Operations and directly supervises and assists in setting up and teardown of events at the Jackson Convention Complex as specified by event setup plans. This position is responsible for preparing the facility for all events. 


Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supervise the Operations Supervisor and full time and part time staff ensuring deadlines are met for conversions and other duties assigned. 
  • Plan and execute events, supervising, and participating when needed in venue set ups, conversions and strikes, scheduling of staff and for all events.
  • Exhibit and deliver exceptional guests services to all visitors, users, vendors, and internal partners.
  • When directed by Director of Operations, set up pre-event walks with leaders to ensure event is ready for our client.
  • Manage client/ vendor storage areas. 
  • Ensure safety protocols are being upheld for a safe environment.
  • Collaborate and partner with directors for client site visits/meetings to ensure all pertinent event information is secured, reporting back to the Director of Operations.
  • Participates and at times meets with potential clients and advises them on the facility requirements, safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare schedules and assign events to the supervisors and Part time staff.
  • Oversees all the communication and advancement of event information to the appropriate departments and staff.
  • Serves as liaison for all clients contracted at the facility to ensure highest level of guest service for all external service providers.
  • Oversees the development of work plans, show and sports floor set-ups, assigns appropriate duties to subordinates. 
  • Other duties assigned including but not limited to assisting other departments as needed. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, business administration, or related field preferred
  • 5 years’ proven experience in an operations management position, experience in Sports complex and/or facility operations management for youth, amateur, collegiate, and professional sporting events, endurance races and special events (concerts/festivals/meetings, etc.)
  • Related experience and/or training in the public assembly industry in a supervisory or management position
  • Vast and proven understanding of guest and customer service
  • Forklift certified or ability to be certified
  • Ability to work event nights, weekends and holidays as required
  • Strong budget development and oversight skills
  • Excellent ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining organizational control of facility operations and customer service
  • Highly trained in conflict management and business negotiation processes
  • Knowledge of general business software and aptitude to learn new applications; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move around the facility; to stand for long hours during events; talk and hear
  • Performing work through repetitive hand/eye coordination.
  • Lifting of up to 25 lbs. Up to 5 minutes at a time. Carrying up to 25 lbs. up to 5 minutes at a time.
