TITLE: Athletic Director - High School SUMMARY: Reporting to the High School Principal, the Athletic Director is responsible for day-to-day management of all athletic programs at Oxford High School. The Athletic Director is responsible for creating an Athletic Department that furthers the core values and beliefs of the District while upholding the values of the MIAA. He/She is responsible for communicating effectively with administration, staff, student-athletes, parents, and members of the community. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Schedules all athletic and school-wide extracurricular activities and events. Initiates the recruitment and selection of coaches and makes employment recommendations to Superintendent. Develops and effectively communicates a vision of excellence for the Athletic Department consistent with school-wide core values and beliefs; enforces all MIAA rules and regulations. Supervises high school athletic events and acts as the host to officials and visiting schools. Develops a budget that allows for regular maintenance and replacement of athletic equipment and uniforms; monitors department budget throughout the fiscal year. Develops and maintains a plan for growing the Athletic Department; manages communication of the athletic program with various media outlets, including social media accounts. Networks with SWCL Athletic Directors as well as other MIAA Athletic Directors by attending monthly meetings as well as by attending the annual MIAA Athletic Director Conference. Develops and implements a marketing program to increase the profile of the Athletic Department at the schools and within the community. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor’s Degree required. Previous experience supervising athletic activities and high school level coaching preferred. CPR/AED/First Aid certification required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of physical education, athletics, scheduling, and coaching; use of computer equipment, internet applications, and software. Skill-based competencies include working well with diverse backgrounds; resolving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; remaining open to others’ ideas; contributing to building a positive team spirit; communicating effectively; presenting information; and responding to questions. Ability-based competencies include responding to common inquiries from students and parents; comprehending documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and regulations; and preparing general reports and correspondence. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, employee is required to communicate and comprehend; lift, transport, and/or move equipment up to 30 pounds, and at times up to 100 pounds; ascend and descend stairs, ropes, or ladders. Vision requirements: close/distance vision and adjusting focus/peripherals; demonstration of technique/skills for athletic participation. Accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally performed in a school environment, athletic field, athletic setting, indoors and outdoors. The noise level is usually moderate to loud but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. Employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
