General Job Description
Work in the project team to create successful projects for customers on schedule and within budgets. Operations Manager will be involved in helping to develop, maintain and enhance processes related to the bidding and execution of projects. The role will have direct reports in the roles of Project Engineer, Project Managers, and Construction Managers. The project group executes projects ranging from a $1 million to $50 million.
Responsibilities
Process
· Develop, enhance, implement and maintain an estimating process which is accurate, consistent, complete, repeatable, and provides historical information for bidding projects.
· Develop, maintain, enhance project execution processes including safety, QC, scheduling, document control, change orders, etc.
· Provide input on software packages to improve operational excellence.
Bidding Phase
· Assign projects to PM, Estimator, and/or Project Engineer to develop the bid and cost estimate.
· Review bid with PM/Estimator for input on construction activities and cost saving ideas.
· Review contracts with legal and determine impact / risks associated with the project.
· Provide input on man power requirements for PM’s and CM’s. Verify staffing availability to execute work if contract is signed.
· Verify PM/Estimator has vetted subcontractors in regards to necessary staffing, safety, experience, and quality.
· Able to travel to review jobsite and attend bid walks with the customer.
Pre-Construction/ Planning / Job Startup / Early Construction
- Assign resources to the job for required roles for successful project execution – Project Managers, Construction Managers, Project Engineers, Safety, QA/QC, Commissioning.
- Execute Pre-Job with Project Team and verify assigned resources are familiar with project scope and PM/Estimator have transferred estimate and bid to the construction team.
- Review estimate, bid tabs, rough schedule, and any preconstruction items with Project Manager.
- Review projects weekly with PM and help resolve any outstanding issues if any.
- Report on project status and potential risks to business leader.
- Understand any legal requirements for the project. Ex: Permits, Licensing, etc. (Review with Project Manager)
Construction Duration
- Review active projects with PM’s on a weekly basis. Verify budgets, schedules, issues, concerns and provide feedback as needed.
- Relay any concerns to leadership if contract terms are at risk – schedule, LD’s, startup, budget.
- Work with accounting to keep accurate Work In Progress reports in a consistent format to track job performance.
- Visit active jobsites routinely during the execution of projects (once every 1 to 3 months)
- Participate in monthly reviews with PM and owner.
Construction Project Closeout
- Work with PM to schedule after action review(s) – internal and external as required.
- Document lessons learned and share internally and make improvements accordingly.
- Assign owner contacts from project to BD or PM to keep in contact for future work.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Construction Degree or Engineering Degree Preferred.
- 5 years managing project managers and construction managers.
- Experience with heavy industrial projects.
- Experience leading a team / department within the construction industry.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings (P&ID, ISO’s, Plans, Elevations).
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Computer skills for operating and creating spreadsheets, presentations, and documents.
- Planning and organization skills necessary to plan, prioritize and coordinate workload within a multiple project setting.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
