Under the guidance of the Director, the Assistant Director provides direct counseling, assessment, and focused treatment to students and is involved in outreach, training, and consultation services. The Assistant Director will gain insight into the administrative, clinical, crisis response, and consultation processes within a Counseling Center serving college students. The Assistant Director provides psychological evaluation, short-term psychotherapy, crisis intervention, case management, and outreach to the student body. Additionally, the Assistant Director consults as needed with other departments on campus regarding psychological emergencies and mental health issues.
The Assistant Director for the Counseling Center in Pleasantville is a full-time, 12 month position within a team that supports Pace University’s strong commitment to a healthy and safe environment for our students including the Pleasantville undergraduate and graduate student populations plus the Law School graduate students. This position has a specialization in alcohol and other drugs (AOD) with the opportunity to educate colleagues on best practices and how to support students who have experienced trauma associated with AOD and/or decision making around AOD.
Duties:

Assistant Director
- Provide individual and group counseling for students regarding personal and academic issues
- Provide consultation to faculty, administrators and staff related to individual students, program development or problem resolution
- Participate in projects, programs, workshops and other outreach initiatives offered by the Counseling Center and/or requested by other University partners to attract, recruit, and retain a diverse student population and to foster community partnerships
- Provide crisis intervention during office hours (9-5) and remotely, on a rotational basis, after hours
- Attend case conferences, in-services, seminars and supervision to enhance professional development.
- Attend university meetings to address the needs of students at risk.
- Participate in university committees and task forces (Alcohol and Other Drugs Committee, Westchester Administrative Staff Council, etc.)
- Assist the Counseling Center Director in preparing Counseling Center reports and other administrative functions as indicated
- Maintain complete and professionally appropriate records

Ensure that all programs, services and materials of the Counseling Center address the specific needs of under-represented students
- Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) Specialist
- Coordinate with campus and community partners on mental health and substance abuse prevention and intervention efforts
- Conduct AOD Limited Assessments for students referred by the Dean for Students, Athletics, and/or Residential Life
- Co-chair the University-wide Alcohol and Other Drugs Committee with the Pace Counseling Center NYC AOD partners
- Coordinate the administration of online AOD interventions for incoming students
- Develop and implement webinars, workshops, social media, and other psychoeducational resources for students, staff, faculty, and family members
- Performs other such duties as assigned from time to time
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Social Work and eligibility for licensure in the state of New York (Preferred: Doctorate degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology)
- Specialty training in Alcohol and Other Drug assessment, intervention, education, and prevention
- Specializations in trauma-informed therapy and treatment of anxiety preferred
- At least 4 years of college counseling experience or equivalent required
