What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Lgl Hand Call-In Ctr position at Pace University?
The Public Interest Law Center (PILC) serves as a hub for Haub Law’s public interest professional development programs and career advising operations, with a goal to nurture student engagement in public service, social justice, and pro bono, and to provide comprehensive targeted services, opportunities and education to students and graduates aspiring to build careers in public service law. PILC coordinates the law school’s public service career and professional development programming and advising, engages in intensive one-on-one counseling, collaborates with numerous other law school and University offices and external employers, contacts, and alumni to lead and manage innovative programs, and designs and builds student opportunities to engage in social justice and public service law. PILC also coordinates the law school’s large Public Interest Summer Fellowship funding program.
Haub Law’s recently collaborated with Legal Hand Inc. to have a Legal Hand Center at Haub Law School, a major new law school initiative to achieve several strategic goals set by the law school and University related to racial and social justice, which is now also operating within PILC and under the PILC Director’s leadership.
The Center Manager to work under the supervision of, and in collaboration with, the PILC Director, and the Center Attorney, in coordinating the PILC’s public service law programs and advising programs and in implementing all aspects of the Legal Hand Center at Haub Law, with a particular focus on building and managing Center which, offers intake of requests and referrals and offers assistance to those individuals in need of guidance or mediation prior to or hopefully in lieu of litigation. The Center Manager will oversee all administrative functions necessary to operate the center as well as supervise the Center’s volunteers and telephone operators. The volunteers may be students pursuing internships and careers with a public service mediation to justice focus. The Center Manager will also engage in career and professional development counseling for JD students and alumni as time allows.
The position is grant funded and its funding is contingent upon the grant’s continuation at awarded funding levels. The current grant cycle begins in August 2022 and concludes in July 2023.

Position Duties
- Coordinates specific program activities, including handling relevant administrative functions, procedures, and systems and, as appropriate based on knowledge of and experience with program activities, objectives, and staff, may serve as the principal source of information on certain programs and office activities.
- Compose, edit, proofread, and maintain substantive correspondence, reports, emails, flyers, announcements, guides, spreadsheets, and other written material.
- Establishes and maintains professional relationships with internal and external contacts.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, alumni, law school and University departments and staff, faculty, and external contacts.
- Oversees, instructs, and coordinates activities of support staff.
- Manage summer funding program, ensuring compliance with University, Federal, and State guidelines, rules, and regulations.
- Engage in career advising/counseling work for public service and environmental program students including assisting students in identifying internship and career opportunities, reviewing application materials, conducting interview preparation, and preparing or updating relevant career guides.
- Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Position Qualifications
- JD (law) degree required.
- At least 1 year of experience, preferably in public service or government law practice and/or administration.
- Experience in improving access to justice and working with others from diverse backgrounds and with diverse perspectives.
- Advanced computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software and email applications, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite tools including PowerPoint and Excel, as well as social media platforms, and the ability to learn new University platforms and online programs.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including editing skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and should enjoy working with students and coordinating projects with multiple colleagues.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and assign work to others and demonstrate the ability to lead and complete projects, even with intermittent interruptions.

Work Hours
Monday through Friday 9AM – 5PM or 8AM – 4PM, primarily in person.
