Qualifications
NBPI or NACE 1 certification
C12 or C14 for Spraying
Two to four years of experience with hand brush and spray painting.
Good knowledge of various types and uses of paints, preparation procedures for different types of surfaces and basic reading to identify paints and solvents.
Knowledgeable in the proper handling and disposal of paint systems that contain heavy metals.
Temporary license to operate high reaching equipment.
Ability to work at heights and confined spaces, and access and move around ships safely.
Must also have the ability to observe differences in color
Essential Job Tasks & Responsibilities
Cleans and prepares wood or metal surfaces for painting
Removes dirt, grease, rust, scale and other contaminates
Masks and tapes areas not requiring painting.
Paint parts, equipment, interior and exterior of ships and shipyard buildings.
Mixes material in accordance to materials data sheet.
Inspects painted areas and performs touch up work as needed.
Sets up tools and equipment at job site
Prepare surface to be painted; mix paint materials (Includes masking, buffing, sanding and applying primer)
Hand paints or spray paints in designated areas, inspecting work for touch up
Cleans up areas and yard maintenance
Operates high reaching equipment to prepare surface and paint in hard to reach areas
Thorough understanding of flow of paperwork to include timecard completion.
Adheres to all PACSHIP organizational policies and procedures.
Performs related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position
Physical/Mental Involvement & Environmental Factors
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to climb stairs, ladders, masts, and scaffolding.
Must be able to work at heights and in confined or restricted spaces aboard vessels under construction/repair.
Must be able to climb on and around ships.
Must be able to handle stressful situations.
Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching.
Must be able to climb vertical ladders to perform ship inspections.
Must be able to spend up to 70%- 100% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates.
Must be able to wear a respirator and other safety equipment.
Periodic inspections require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding, and observing tools, equipment and/or machinery while in operation.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke. The noise level is usually moderate to extremely noisy 70% of the time, which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

Must pass pre-employment drug screen
Must be a US Citizen and pass criminal background check to be able to obtain Credentials to access Government Installations
May be required to work at multiple locations including Bremerton, WA and Everett, WA.
May be required to work a variety of shifts including day, swing, night.
