Summary:
The Quality Lead will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the quality systems to ensure quality product compliance. This role will involve coordinating quality assurance activities, conducting audits, and facilitating continuous improvement initiatives across the department.
Essential duties and responsibilities: Duties performed by employees in this position will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Assists with the implementation of quality management systems including policies and procedures to meet BRC and other relevant standards
- Ensure all QMS documentation is up-to-date and accessible
- Conduct internal audits to verify compliance with QMS requirements
- Uphold GMP processes and perform GMP audits
- Point person for Tier Meetings, hold inquiries, as well as holding Quality staff accountable in absence of Quality Manager
- Assist with second- and third-party audit readiness ensuring proper documentation, reviewing procedures, and updating where necessary
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and customer-specific quality requirements
- Identify areas for improvement within the manufacturing processes and QMS
- Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective action plans to address quality issues
- Promote Food Safety culture and quality awareness across the plant
- Provide support and guidance to plant personnel on quality-related issues
- Act as a liaison between the quality department and other departments to resolve quality issues
- Assist with collecting, and reporting on quality metrics to track performance and identify trends
- Assist in preparation of quality reports to management, highlighting key issues and improvement initiatives
- Handle customer complaints and coordinate investigations to resolve quality issues
- Use/run testing equipment to complete designated tests on collected samples, properly recording results, identifying issues and assisting with corrective actions/ troubleshooting, including troubleshooting equipment
- Schedule and manage annual calibration of equipment as well as organize external calibration of equipment
- Involved in line changeovers to ensure clearance procedures are followed accordingly
- Work within SAP to review rejects, block loads and backtrack product
- Generate sorting backlog in SAP and communicates report to plant leadership
- Generates and distributes daily reject report in absence of PCA
- Reviews all customer “perfect” samples and coordinates/prepares samples for shipment to customers
- Demonstrates proactive action to avoid quality concerns
- Disposition non conformance products on production lines and elevate to plant leadership as necessary
Requirements:
- 2-4 years of related work experience within quality function
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Experience with BRC, GFSI, or AIB certification and audits required
- Must be proficient in Excel, Microsoft Office, Statistical Software & some programming experience
- Statistical methods & process improvement techniques
- Knowledge of manufacturing lab practices & test procedure
- Superior mathematical & statistical ability
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including off-shift coverage & weekends
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Skills:
- Must be a self-starter and assume accountability for efficient use of time and resources (time management skills)
- Proven work experience as a Quality Assurance Specialist or similar role
- Solid knowledge of relevant regulatory standards
- Excellent data collection and analysis skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Prioritization skills to minimize impact on production
- Strong oral and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate at different levels of the organization.
- Previous experience leading a team
- Bilingual
Physical Requirements/ Environmental Conditions:
- Required to stand while performing essential duties of the job
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively with little to no supervision
- Positive work attitude and willingness to cooperate
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Pushing/moving of raw material and equipment required. Weight range will be from 100 to 2000 lbs.
- The noise level in the work environment is consistently above 85 decibels
- Able to work with dust from paper converting process
- The employee constantly works near moving mechanical parts and lift trucks
- Required to wear steel-toed shoes, bump cap, hair net, ear plugs and safety glasses in manufacturing area and beard net required
- Ambient temp and humidity may be elevated during the summer months
