What are the responsibilities and job description for the Office Management Americorps VISTA position at PADS Lake County?
The Office Management VISTA will work with our Outreach Coordinator, Grants Manager, and Development Team at PADS Lake County to make a direct impact on supporting our office staff and clients. They will create a system for organizing client information in a safe, confidential manner that is accessible to staff. The VISTA will also work with and learn from our Grants Manager to create a system for tracking available grants, application deadlines, and requirements, as well as apply for grant funding. The Office Management VISTA will also collaborate with staff to facilitate community outreach events and enhance strategies for networking, recruiting volunteers, and fundraising. They will create a calendar of local, annual events to build stronger connections with the community we serve.
This Office Management AmeriCorps VISTA will be hosted by PADS Lake County located in Waukegan, Illinois. PADS Lake County is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Since 1972, PADS Lake County has provided immediate, critical services to individuals and families that are experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to provide trauma-informed support, resources, and shelter to individuals and families experiencing a housing crisis. We envision a community in which homelessness is rare, brief, and nonrecurring; one in which those experiencing a housing crisis have timely access to needed resources and services. As the only emergency homeless shelter in Lake County, PADS serves as the point of entry not only to our holistic wrap-around services and shelter; but also, provides referrals to other homeless services and housing options in the community. Our main facility is in Waukegan, while our shelters and housing programs are strategically located throughout Lake County. The Office Management VISTA will gain experience working in a social service setting and build skills in grant writing and community engagement. The ideal candidate will have customer service experience, speak Spanish, and be highly organized.
