Amentum / PAE / Macfadden is seeking a GIS Analyst, Junior to support USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance ( BHA ) in Washington, DC.
USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) leads and coordinates the U.S. Government’s humanitarian assistance efforts overseas in response to natural disasters and protracted crises. The bureau also supports early recovery efforts that restore and protect basic systems and services and invests in risk reduction programs that prevent or reduce risks associated with chronic and recurrent hazards. Macfadden serves as an Institutional Support Contractor to USAID, where day-to-day work assignments and oversight are provided by BHA office directors, deputy office directors, or technical leads, with formal supervisory and evaluation functions performed by a Macfadden contract supervisor.
The GIS Analyst, Junior is a key member of Macfadden’s Humanitarian Information Team (HIT) and reports to the HIT GIS manager. The GIS Analyst works very closely with USAID/BHA Regional Offices, Humanitarian Information Team, Strategic Communications and Content Teams, and other divisions within USAID/BHA to produce a wide variety of mapping products for both internal and external audiences.
The GIS Analyst, Junior will:
- Provide geospatial services to USAID/BHA in the form of maps and graphics, geospatial analysis, and technical team projects.
- Communicate the geographic operating picture of BHA’s humanitarian work through the acquisition, production, and provision of geo-spatial data and cartography.
- Collaborate closely with BHA and with peers in U.S Government agencies, the humanitarian community, academic, and private sectors.
- Provide mapping support to a BHA regional team.
- Identify geospatial requirements for the region and develop plans and products to satisfy those requirements.
- Assist in establishing data management and data acquisition systems for map production.
- Support the cartographic production and backstop teams.
- Contribute to USAID and BHA training courses, as applicable.
- Tailor communications appropriately to maintain high quality client relationships.
- Meet regional team needs, act professionally, and represent the unit effectively.
- Contribute proactively as part of a team.
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Facility Access Clearance (FAC) or Secret Security Clearance issued by the US Government for the duration of your employment on this contract.
Education:
- Requires a Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
Experience:
- Must have at least 1 year of relevant work experience.
Skills:
- Must have extensive knowledge of geospatial data from a wide array of sources. Expertise in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) using desktop and web-based platforms, cartographic design, image processing, graphic editing, relational databases, metadata standards, and standard office applications.
- Must have familiarity with Google Earth and creating and manipulating kml and kmz files.
- Must have excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
- Requires the ability to work in high pressure situations occasionally exceeding normal business hours with the potential for domestic and overseas travel.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Requires a strong grasp of cartographic design and production, GIS analysis, and spatial data formats.
- Must be able to produce high-quality maps that meet team specifications and standards.
- Must be able to effectively communicate technical mapping considerations and concepts to a non-technical audience.
Preferred:
- GIS application development experience.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
- International experience and foreign language skills.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
