Position Summary:
The Plant Controller for the facility will lead and support the Operations in addition to assisting with reporting and identifying of cost savings opportunities. This includes providing accurate financial and statistical data for Management to make timely and informed decisions concerning financial performance and future projections. The position has dual reporting between the General Manager (secondary: local) and the CFO (Primary: New Jersey).
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Partner of the site leaders
- Provides the financial leadership and decision-making support for the business
- Oversee monthly closing process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained
- Preparation of monthly financial statements, analytics, and variance explanations
- Preparation of workpapers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances
- Review journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity
- Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate reporting is provided to Corporate
- Manage transactions by department and compare costs incurred to budget, forecast with added explanations and performance analysis of all departments
- Working closely with the Corporate Finance Team, prepare annual budget and required forecasts
- Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective internal controls, aligned with Corporate
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations
- Proper analytical review of the operations from a balance sheet and income statement perspective as well as an overall business perspective
- Any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time
- Manage plant related matters during the annual Year-end Audit
- Manage accounting functions including Purchase Requisitions, Inventory Costing, Department Cost Management, Property Taxes, etc.
- Mentor Sr. Cost Accountant and work cross-functionally with all departments within the organization
- Review Plant expenses monthly and be proactive in cost control (This will require close interaction with the management team on an ongoing basis)
- Review and prepare journal entries, and variance analysis and ensure accounting activities are well supported and documented and audit ready
- Analyze and report on plant operational results, critical KPI’s and other reports to assist the General Manager, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer in controlling plant performance
- Coordinate and prepare capital spending requisitions, justifications, and approvals
- Track capital project cash flow and validate return on investment justifications on a project basis
- Participate in internal and external audits
- Ability to work with all departments to prepare their annual budgets, simplifying the reporting and tracking of the budgets throughout the year, and ability to upload budgets from our local system to a divisional template / system
- Complete other projects and ad hoc analyses as needed by the General Manager, Chief Operating Officer, or Chief Financial Officer
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- B.S. in Accounting or related field, CPA, MBA preferred
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in roles such as Controller or Sr Accounting Manager; or experience in Top 10 accounting firm
- Pharma industry experience preferred
- Strong abstract reasoning, problem solving and must have strong organizational skills and management abilities
- Detail oriented and self-motivated person who can prioritize tasks and motivate staff from all departments
- Passion for leading and implementing process improvements in tactical and strategic activities
- Proven progressive leadership record
- Contributes to a collaborative, positive energy, highly productive culture
