This position is responsible for safely performing production work as well as directing the work of other employees on the same shift. The Team Leader will ensure material flow and audit each cell daily for compliance with procedures to meet departmental production and attendance schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform production work and direct the work of other employees on the same shift.
Prepare, provide and maintain accurate paperwork and record-keeping.
Follow all company rules and policies as well as OSHA/EPA regulations.
Motivate and lead a shift of manufacturing staff.
Organize and prioritize tasks.
Perform problem-solving and the ability to make quick decisions that promote safety and quality at all times.
Maintain a professional and positive attitude toward all team members.
Maintain a high desire to perform well on a consistent basis.
Motivate peers and lead by example.
Hold and facilitate team meetings as required.
Assist with performance, attendance of personnel, and disciplinary actions as required.
Understand and enforce Company policies and procedures at all times.
Ensure that current and newly assigned associates are properly trained. Continuously train and cross-train to promote advancement.
Hands-on implementation of Lean manufacturing tools.
Ability to read and understand complex instructions and work from schedules.
Use personal protective equipment as required.
Commit and become knowledgeable of Continuous Improvement initiatives within the department.
Maintain an acceptable level of all Company policies.
Assist other team members as instructed by the VSL.
Work overtime and weekends as required.
Perform other duties as required.
Ability to report SQDIP in VSL’s absence at daily management meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Good interpersonal communication skills in both written and verbal communications.
Extensive knowledge of the manufacturing process as required.
Must have good delegation skills.
Must be willing to constantly learn to advance self, as well as other staff.
Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience.
Working knowledge of the operation and equipment.
Ability to work with technical personnel.
Must be self-motivated.
Use protective equipment as required.
Other duties as required by management.
Knowledge
Requires a high school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent. Experience in a heavy manufacturing environment is desired.
Able to read and understand written instructions.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Strong team attitude.
Experience in similar work centers.
Skills
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
Strong delegation and follow-up skills.
Understanding of basic machine operation and processes.
Ability to plan the fabrication, installation, and repairs of machinery, equipment, and building components/systems.
Utilize a computerized Preventative Maintenance system.
Ability to work with minimum supervision.
Ability to work with other disciplines in a team environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Computer literate.
Ability to read and understand written instructions.
Ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. on occasion.
Ability to be accurate with both calipers and micrometer.
Experience
Experience in like Cells.
Experience working with microfibers is preferred but not needed.
Prior supervisory experience preferred.
Training/Certification
Will be trained and certified in all aspects of the position. Training is typically conducted over a prescribed period of time and may require working at night. When and if training certification is required, it may consist of taking and passing one or more comprehensive test(s) based on classroom materials, computer training information, and/or field hands-on training comprehension demonstrations. When and if training certification is required, the incumbent will be asked to renew his/her certification at regular intervals when or if a lack of certification-level knowledge is demonstrated. Must maintain a satisfactory level of certification when required.

Ability to stand, sit, stoop, bend, walk, reach, squat, kneel, push and pull for long periods of time.
Must be capable of steadily using the hands for the operation and manufacturing of equipment.
