DEFINITION:
To perform health-related duties to ensure that the federal performance standards of the Head Start/State Preschool Programs are met, and to assist the training of staff, parents, and children on health and nutrition issues.

The examination components consist of a qualifying written multiple-choice examination, skills performance, and structure oral interview. After the exam procedure concludes for this recruitment, an eligibility list will be established to fill future vacancies. Work Schedule
This position typically works full-time eight (8) hours per day; 40-hour work week; 12-month work calendar.
Salary and Benefits
The salary rate for a new employee is at the first step of the appropriate salary schedule for the position. The District provides and contributes to a comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, term life insurance) per contract year for each employee and eligible dependents. Holidays and Leaves
Seventeen (17) paid holidays that fall within the work year, pursuant to the District's Collective Bargaining Agreement with California Schools Employees Association Chapter 296 (CSEA).
Sick leave shall be granted in the proportion of daily hours worked. Vacation is earned at the prescribed rate as part of compensation, and does not become vested until after completion of the initial probationary period.
Work Environment
Work is regularly performed indoors. Minimal temperature variations occur in a temperature-controlled environment with heating and air conditioning. Indoor surfaces can include carpet, tile, mats, linoleum. Exposure to some noise, such as office equipment, school bells, staff and students; exposure to fragrances/scents/odors from co-workers, students, cleaning/sanitizing agents, bloodborne pathogens, and medical treatments used to provide appropriate care for ill, injured, or medically fragile children.
Physical Demands
Significant sitting and standing; some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, twisting of neck and waist; significant grasping, and dexterity of hands and fingers to perform health-related procedures, write, perform data entry, use computer keyboard and mouse; see and hear in normal range with or without correction.

To perform health-related duties to ensure that the federal performance standards of the Head Start/State Preschool Programs are met, and to assist the training of staff, parents, and children on health and nutrition issues.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives supervision from the Head Start Director and/or designee.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct developmental, sensory, and behavioral screening within the appropriate prescribed time frame from student entry into the program (height, weight, vision and hearing).
- Development and implementation of a follow-up plan for identified health conditions. Obtain or arrange further diagnostic testing, examination, and treatment by an appropriate licensed or certified professional for each child with an observable, known, or suspected health or developmental problem.
- Review medical histories and nutrition screenings for completion. Determine child health status within the appropriate prescribed time frame after child begins.
- Counsel and provide health-related information to parents of preschool children.
- Determine whether each student has an ongoing source of accessible health care; assist parent in accessing a source of care, when necessary.
- Assist the Registered Nurse in performance of a wide variety of duties related to health and nutrition, including administration of immunization vaccinations.
- Observe student health status and contact parent, as appropriate; refer parents and students to public health agencies or other health care providers, when necessary.
- Determine if student is up-to-date on schedule for age-appropriate preventive and primary health care, which includes medical, dental, and mental health.
- Perform telephone triage -- from staff, parents, medical professionals and coordinators.
- Assist/provide health/nutrition presentations; attend a variety of meetings, workshops, and conferences to remain updated on health issues and concerns.
- Assist with biannual Health Advisory Committee meetings.
- Perform a wide variety of general clerical work including the maintenance of accurate and detailed records, establishment and maintenance of student health records, verifying accuracy of information, recording of information on required control sheets, and preparation of reports, correspondence, forms, notices, and referrals.
- Process paperwork to ensure students receive physical and dental examinations and required follow-up care; graph heights and weights; review all emergency cards for completion and student data to determine the need for nutrition counseling or medical intervention.
- Check and restock first aid kits.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience:
Two years experience in nursing and/or Head Start/State Preschool health services.
Training:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.

- Valid CPR and First Aid training certification.
- Valid driver's license.
