What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Manager, Tax position at Paper?
We are seeking a passionate and highly motivated individual to lead the tax strategy and compliance for a fast-growing organization. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this role is responsible for all aspects of taxation for US and Canada, including but not limited to corporate, indirect-tax, employer taxes and transfer pricing strategies. The role will be a critical contributor to Paper’s strategy, helping refine the overall tax strategy for the business.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive tax strategy to ensure the company is in compliance with tax laws, for federal and state/provincial legislation in both US and Canada
- Review and respond to IRS, State Tax, CRA and Revenu Quebec notices as they arise
- Evaluate the employer tax compliance of the company against US and Canada with respect to local state and provincial employment laws (ie. workers compensation, unemployment filings)
- Manages corporate tax projects, including state nexus analysis and transfer pricing between US and Canada
- Prepare tax account reconciliations and other accounting as needed to support financial reporting compliance
- Prepare documentation for government research grants related to IRAP/SR&ED tax credits
- Support federal, state, and local tax liability calculations and document records to support company compliance with the various jurisdictional requirements (employment tax and sales tax where applicable)
- Coordinate compliance for the preparation of all tax returns and statutory filings with external accountant
- Maintain strong relationships with the external auditors and tax firms on compliance activities and development of long-term tax strategies
Experience Requirements:
- 7 years in tax accounting with a combination of working at a tax firm and private industry
- Experience working with SAAS Companies in US and Canada is considered an asset
- Must be a CPA in US or Canada
- Must stay abreast in existing role with US and Canadian tax legislation with respect to new pronouncements that would impact corporations
- Must have prior working experience dealing with IRS, CRA and state/provincial tax authorities
- Must have prior working experience with company tax audits
