As a result, there’s often a divorce between the founder’s working knowledge of their business’ finances and actual numbers, leading to costly mistakes, missed opportunities and confusion.

Founding Operations Member — Head of Accounting

Paperclip is looking to hire a head of accounting to help us service our growing user base and manage our bookkeeping team.  The ideal candidate is comfortable overseeing a team of up to ten bookkeepers, each servicing the books of 40-60 startups with books of varying complexity using our proprietary software.

This is a unique opportunity to help build and influence an innovative new way of accounting.

Your responsibilities will include: 

• Accounting Policy and Procedures Lead: 

• Develop and maintain Paperclip’s accounting policies & procedures manuals, to be adopted across our entire portfolio of customers. 
• Recommend, prioritize, and implement process improvements to maximize accuracy and efficiency.
• Provide guidance to our bookkeeping teams, especially on complicated accounting concepts and workflows

• Build and manage the accounting operations team:

• • Responsible for growing and managing the accounting operations team
  • Recommend, prioritize, and implement processes to improve customer satisfaction
  • Where required, review accounting workpapers prepared by junior accounting operations team members.
  • Delight customers with world-class accounting support and guidance
  • Manage customer deadlines
    

• Product: 

• Work with the product team to improve the Paperclip product.
• Provide technical accounting guidance, when required, to the Paperclip product team

You may be a good fit if you have: 

• B.S. or M.S. in Accounting or equivalent
• Active CPA license 
• Experience in monthly close processes and financial statement creation.
• 4 years of relevant work experience
• 2 years leading a team of accountants
• Mastery of existing accounting software solutions (e.g. Quickbooks, Xero, NetSuite)
• The ability to prioritize and multitask
• Strong organizational skills 
• Deadline and detail-oriented 
• An exacting attention to detail
