Purpose Statement
The job of Instructional Coach is done for the purpose(s) of providing support to the instructional process by assisting in the implementation of curriculum and programming; supporting teachers in using data by identifying goals and monitoring student progress; planning instruction; providing professional development; communicating with a wide variety of personnel; and serving as a resource to others.
This job reports to Site Administrator.
Essential Functions
Collaborate with teachers in a variety of ways (e.g. planning for learning and instruction, implementation of the lesson, classroom and instructional management responsibilities, collection and analysis of data, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that data and analysis are properly used to drive instruction.
Assists classroom teachers in diagnosing academic difficulties for the purpose of planning appropriate intervention and accommodation strategies for all students.
Collaborates with instructional staff and other school personnel for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes and achieving established teaching objectives.
Conducts focused observations for the purpose of providing “next step” support to all teachers.
Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents files and records (e.g. logs of visitation, progress, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
Models lessons and teaching strategies for the purpose of providing observable techniques for maximizing student learning and classroom management.
Observes and coaches teachers to monitor progress of implementation of strategies for the purpose of reflection and application of teaching and learning.
Participates in a variety of collaborative meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. observation reports, communication with a variety of individuals, etc.) for the purpose of documenting teacher progress and providing necessary feedback.
Serves as a resource to identify instructional strategies for the purpose of maximizing resources to support literacy and mathematics.
Supports teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation and pacing of established curriculum (i.e., GVC where appropriate) and/or individual student plans.
Plans and facilitates professional development.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; presentation skills; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: appropriate codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; effective literacy strategies; using technology instruction; reading processes, acquisition, assessment, instruction and scientifically-based reading research; age appropriate activities; and lesson plan requirements.

Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different process; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently required independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and /or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job’s functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands; some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. And significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking and 33% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education: Master’s degree in job-related area.
Equivalency: National Board of Professional Teaching Standards Certificate, and/or equivalent professional experience.
