The Continuous Improvement & Launch Manager (WP1 & FPP) or designate is responsible for coordinating and ensuring sufficient resources are available for the continuous improvement and launch activities while focusing on and adhering to Quality & Business Operating Systems and promoting continuous improvement initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:

The responsibilities and authorities for this position include, but are certainly not limited to:

Manage and coordinate the continuous improvement/process improvements and launch activities.

Manage and coordinate the Cost Reduction Plan (CRP) projects from “cradle to grave” with a focus on process improvements while reducing or eliminating cost.

Work in conjunction with the Packaging Engineer to ensure development of internal and external packaging meets both internal and external targets

Supervise the process of cross-functional generation and review of process FMEAs with the support of production, quality, maintenance, and technical managers/supervisor(s). Administer the PFMEAs and ensures they are routinely updated.

Develop, manage and control the Process Control plans and Process Flow Charts.

Manage and coordinate the purchase and development of secondary/auxiliary/ equipment and fixtures to include sourcing, purchasing (completing required requisition, purchase orders, tracking of spending) and commissioning to PPAP and into production with in budgetary requirements.

Coordinates and manages “run-offs” at equipment vendors against “acceptance Criteria” as specified in the Technical Specifications for purchase.

Manage and coordinate reviews / work station set-up development, machine / press cycle times according to budget.

Ensure a continuous focus on safety and ergonomic is continually improved/maintained.

Responsible to manage and coordinate the successful launch of manufacturing process on the shop floor, to include development and training as necessary.

Provides manufacturing engineering support within A.P. Plasman as required to support launch and CRP activities

Support the APQP process and Program Managers with the creation of technical specifications during launch as required in the development of new product launches.

Analyze and make recommendation to improve OEE (overall equipment effectiveness)

Search out and implement new technologies and Continuous Improvement opportunities.

Support the Quality department when required with customer concerns and corrective actions for 8D responses

Maintain proper filing system to ensure all information is properly stored, easily retrieved and able to manage / report results achieved for the CRP/CI initiatives as well as Launch activities and Management Review team results.

Responsible for set-up information and operator instructions to the production floor, as well as creation and maintenance of job books at launch and assistance to Quality with revisions as necessary.

Develop plans for efficient use of materials, equipment and employees, including development and facilitation of training as required.

Develop team atmosphere by using cross-functional teams during planning and implementation reviews which should include all levels of employees

Be an example to all employees through demonstrated professionalism and the ability to make accurate and timely decisions

Ensure personal and associate awareness and understanding of ISO 14001 and ISO/TS 16949 (includes ISO 9001) Standards, and company policies and procedures.

During management system audit events provide evidence in support of conformance with applicable standards and procedures, and participate in corrective action activities as necessary.

Promote an atmosphere of team work at all times.

Ensure that all employees work in a manner consistent with local, provincial and federal health and safety and environmental legislation.

Ensure that a clean and safe work environment is always maintained.

Ensure that sufficient resources are available for each department including training, safety requirements, personnel, business and shop tools through regular business meetings.

Assist in any way to any employee, necessary to promote a successful operation emphasizing customer satisfaction.

Be an example to all employees in all areas of the business through demonstrated professionalism, positive employee relations, and the ability to make accurate and timely decisions.

Monitor and report the goals for manufacturing engineering through the effective use of the objectives of the performance management program (PMP).

Meet company requirements for annual completion of subordinates PMP.

Complete any other duties as assigned

HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Continuous Improvement & Launch Manager is responsible for complying with the Company Health & Safety Program including Occupational Health & Safety Legislation, regulations, standards and Company Health & Safety policies. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR DESIGNATION REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the following minimum education qualifications:

Must possess a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and/or Mechanical Engineering or College Diploma in Industrial and/or Mechanical Engineering.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the following minimum work experience qualifications:

Minimum 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing Automotive Management or equivalent with demonstrated ability to lead.

Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in Plastics and/or Automotive Industry or equivalent.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Understanding of expectations detailed through Organization Statements, Standards, Visions, Policies and Procedures (i.e. Mission, Values, Code of Conduct, Operational, Quality, and Environmental Health & Safety) as referenced in Employee Handbooks and communicated through Orientation and/or other training awareness opportunities

Additional training requirements may be identified based on plant-specific location (municipality/province/state/country) and/or operational needs that are commensurate with the duties, expectations and responsibilities of the role within the specific plant

Ability to perform well in high pressure situations

Must be flexible and able to work in a team environment

Meets expectation rating (rating score of 2 or 3) in all applicable Competencies as defined in the Performance Management Process.

Capable of independent travel to, from and within designated regions

Access to reliable transportation

Must be capable of performing the essential duties which include maximum safe lifts to the 75th percentile of the employee as determined by acceptable standards.

Computer skills – Microsoft Applications, Lotus Notes

Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality

Good communication skills, both verbal and written

Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional work ethic, both in appearance & demeanor

Must be flexible and able to work in a team environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus
