What are the responsibilities and job description for the ISS Teacher position at Parkland High?
FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The purpose of this is to perform tasks associated with the In-School and Out-of-School Suspension programs at a school. Work involves coordinating assignments with teachers and Student Support Personnel, providing orientation, instruction, monitoring, and assisting students with school-work while maintaining discipline.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform tasks associated with the In-School and Out-of-School student suspensions program and assists in monitoring its effectiveness.
• Coordinate students’ school-work assignments with teachers and student support staff.
• Procure public service worksites and coordinate public service assignments of students in the program.
• Constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students’ monitors student attitudes and encourages self-esteem; assists students with becoming increasingly independent.
• Monitor student behavior and maintain discipline in the classroom; records time out and in-class suspension, assists with crisis prevention.
• Assist students with learning; reinforce and clarify instruction; conduct short sessions on improving study skills; provide one-on-one assistance as needed.
• Maintain monthly reports and documentation tracking students’ progress who are placed in the alternative setting in lieu of out-of-school suspension.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of daily routines of a classroom and ability to motivate students to meet educational goals.
• Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
• Ability to maintain required files and records.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitates by work assignments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree and one year work experience with school aged children in a educational setting.
• Desirable: Bachelor’s Degree and three years’ experience working with children assigned to In-School and Out-of-School suspensions programs.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
• Valid NC Teaching License
• Valid NC Driver’s License
