Inventory Clerk - Gate Clerk

Pay Rate- $17.00 hourly.
Job Summary:
The Inventory Clerk is responsible for accurately maintaining inventory records and monitoring stock levels within the intermodal railroad transportation industry on all trailers, chassis, and containers. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
The Inventory Clerk is responsible for accurately maintaining inventory records and monitoring stock levels within the intermodal railroad transportation industry on all trailers, chassis, and containers. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
In this role you will also split your time between inventory and gate inspection while efficiently and accurately coordinating the movement of trucks and containers in and out of the facility while inspecting trailers, chassis, and containers for any type of damage.

Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management:
- Conduct regular inventory counts to ensure accurate records of all equipment by location.
- Operate a company issued pick-up truck throughout the rail yard.
- Monitor inventory movements and update records accordingly.
- Identify discrepancies or anomalies in inventory levels and investigate root causes.
- Coordinate with relevant teams to resolve inventory discrepancies promptly.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations.
Gate Operations:
- Greet and direct incoming and outgoing trucks, verifying necessary documentation and ensuring compliance with terminal rules and regulations.
- Accurately record and update truck and container information in the terminal's computer system.
- Issue gate passes, permits, and other required documentation to authorized personnel.
- Coordinate with security personnel to ensure the safety and security of the terminal premises.
Data Entry and Recordkeeping:
- Input inventory data into computer systems or databases accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain and update inventory records, ensuring they are current and accurate.
- Generate reports on inventory levels, stock movement, and any inventory-related issues.
- Assist in analyzing inventory data to identify trends, patterns, and potential areas for improvement.
Receiving and Inspection:
- Receive incoming shipments and verify their accuracy against purchase orders or shipping documents.
- Inspect shipments for damage or defects, reporting any discrepancies to the appropriate personnel.
- Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to resolve any issues related to received goods.
Stock Organization:
- Organize and maintain inventory storage areas to ensure efficient stock retrieval and accessibility.
- Label and tag inventory items appropriately for easy identification and tracking.
- Conduct periodic audits of stock locations to ensure proper organization and minimize errors.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare shipping and receiving documentation, including bills of lading, packing lists, and other related paperwork.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory movements, transfers, and adjustments.
- Generate reports on inventory levels, stock utilization, and any other relevant inventory metrics.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with other departments, including operations, logistics, and procurement, to ensure smooth inventory operations.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders regarding inventory-related matters.
- Assist in coordinating inventory-related activities during audits or inspections.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Proven experience as an inventory clerk or in a similar role within the transportation or logistics industry is preferred.
- Proficiency in using inventory management software or databases.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite.
