Plant Buyer
Parterre Garden Services is a leading residential landscape company based in Massachusetts, dedicated to creating stunning gardens and outdoor environments through exceptional design and quality plant selections.
We are seeking an experienced Plant Buyer to join our team and play a vital role in enhancing our planting projects through the selection and procurement of high-quality perennials, shrubs, trees and holiday greens. As a Plant Buyer, you will collaborate with our designers, directors and managers to source, evaluate, and purchase an extensive range of plants to ensure the successful execution of our landscape design installations, native plant installations and seasonal containers.
Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the landscape design, installation, maintenance and ecological teams, assess project requirements and develop plant procurement plans.
- Research, identify, and establish relationships with reliable plant nurseries, suppliers, and growers to ensure access to diverse and top-quality plant stock.
- Evaluate and select plant varieties based on factors such as region-specific suitability, aesthetic appeal, growth patterns, and sustainability.
- Negotiate terms of purchase, including volume discounts, delivery schedules, and payment terms, to secure cost-effective and timely plant acquisitions.
- Coordinate with suppliers and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery and proper handling of plant shipments, maintaining high standards of plant health and quality.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels, tracking plant stock, and updating plant availability information for use in future projects.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new plant introductions, and horticultural best practices to inform plant selection and purchasing decisions.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure proper aftercare and health maintenance of purchased plants, offering guidance and support as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Landscape Architecture, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience in plant procurement, nursery management, or horticultural purchasing, with knowledge of New England native and non-native plant varieties and growing conditions.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a proactive and results-oriented approach.
- Proficiency in plant identification, growth patterns, and horticultural best practices.
- Strong computer skills specifically in Microsoft and Google environments as well as desired experience with Aspire.
About the Position:
The Plant Buyer is a full-time salaried position reporting to and collaborating with the Operations Director and Operations team.
In addition to a competitive annual salary, the position offers a quarterly Open Book bonus program earning additional pay, (15) days of Paid Time Off (PTO), (8) paid holidays, plus (1) paid company summer outing.
