The Partnership for Southern Equity (PSE) advances policies and institutional actions that promote racial equity and shared prosperity for all in the growth of metropolitan Atlanta and the American South. We have grown our resources to support an operation of six (6) key issue areas; Just Energy (JE), Just Growth (JG), Just Health (JH), Just Opportunity (JO), Just Solutions (JS) and YES! for Equity.

This position will primarily support prescribed PSE issue areas for Policy activities. The Manager for Policy will be an individual contributor and manage the translation of policy into information that will assist the organization in advancing one of its main strategies, leveraging data and research for building community power and systems transformation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify opportunities to connect data and research to community-led efforts, systemic issues, policy, legislation, and advocacy.
  • Serve on local, regional, and national public policy working groups.
  • Manage the designing and executing high-impact, innovative, policy-relevant data analyses and tools such as policy dashboard.
  • Contribute to the design of research projects including the development of conceptual and analytical frameworks for examining justice-related issues, evaluating programs and policies, and understanding the policy context.
  • Coordinate with the communications teams to produce high-quality products.
  • Lead quantitative and qualitative research and author, co-author, and contribute writing and research to policy briefs, analyses, and articles, including comparative analyses and equity profiles/research reports focused on Black and historically disinvested communities of color.
  • Write reports, policy briefs, and other publications to disseminate findings from research projects
  • Oversee the development and implementation of outreach and dissemination strategies, including webinars.
  • Develop internal workplans for project deliverables.
  • Synthesize findings from original research to identify insights that answer critical questions for our stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the communication of research findings to stakeholders and public audiences via presentations and written reports.
  • Develop research methodologies and technical reference documentation for project work.
  • Conduct trainings and presentations on PSE policy initiatives.
  • Stay current with pertinent literature, developments, and data visualizations around issues of demographic change, inequality, mobility, and equitable growth.
  • Use mixed methods to data collection and analysis that include quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Manage tasks and deadlines for multiple research projects (small and large), which includes working collaboratively with staff at all levels and troubleshooting potential issues.
  • Assist in the development of policy-management Standard Operating Procedures

  • This job has limited supervisory responsibilities.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university in urban planning, economics, public policy, or related social science (e.g., political science, sociology).
  • 3 years of related experience and/or training in policy analysis or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to write accurate and comprehensive reports
  • Experience with data visualization tools
  • Experience with Lexis Nexus
  • Experience with data management and analysis using statistical software (SAS, STATA, SPSS, Tableu, etc.)
  • Experience developing databases, management processes, and learning frameworks that are easy-to-learn and easy-to-pass-on
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to take direction
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, stay organized and follow through without supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited university in urban planning, economics, public policy, or related social science (e.g., political science, sociology).
  • 5 years of related experience
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Experience considering the material impacts of racial inequity on Black communities, communities of color, and low-wealth communities in technical analysis
  • Familiarity with the social justice landscape in metro Atlanta and/or the Southeast
  • Fundamental understanding of race, structural racism and racial equity
