Title: Weld Engineer
Reports To: Quality Manager
Summary: The Weld Engineer is responsible for developing welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.
Responsibilities:
  1. Develop welding techniques and procedures for robotic welding operations
  2. Inspect weld joints and conduct tests to ensure welds meet company standards, national code requirements, and customer job specifications
  3. Conduct certification tests for qualification of personnel with national code requirements
  4. Organize and plan the development of welding procedure specifications (WPS) and welding programs for the automated welding systems, with established timelines for each development
  5. Ensure all programs for automated welding systems have all critical documents developed and approved prior to release of profiles to production
  6. Evaluate new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or processes
  7. Assist or perform welding equipment setup and communication
  8. Assist or perform robotic weld gun calibration
  9. Perform verification of weld equipment performance
  10. Required to travel 25% between local Paslin facilities
  11. Perform all other duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
  1. 3 years recent experience
  2. B.S. Engineering or equivalent experience in the field of welding preferred
  3. 1 years of automotive/industrial manufacturing welding experience
  4. Project experience from concept to installation is considered a plus
  5. Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) and American Weld Society (AWS) preferred
  6. Welding knowledge of advanced high strength steels, aluminum alloys and magnesium alloys
  7. Ability to spot and diagnose problems, as well as engineer solutions
  8. Knowledge of Bosch and Medar welding systems and software
  9. Ability to self-learn a new system
Work Environment: This position operates in a shop environment.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and twist. Frequently required to lift/push/pull up to 50lbs.
Expected Hours of Work: This position regularly requires daily overtime hours and frequent weekend work.
Travel: This position requires some out of town and overnight travel.
