Primary Function: To promote student success by facilitating communication among the home, the school, and the community and by providing supportive services to students and their families in order to optimize the student’s ability to learn and adjust in the school environment. To assist students whose social, economic, health, behavioral, or emotional problems prevent them from making the most of their time in school.

Qualifications:
Must hold a master’s degree in school social work or a bachelor’s degree with a major in a behavioral science or related field or shall have no less than three (3) years combined actual experience as a schoolteacher, school administrator, law enforcement officer possessing such degree, and/or social worker
Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
Must be able to work with minimal daily supervision
Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies
Must be able to work collaboratively with school district personnel as well as outside agencies to coordinate and provide services for at risk students.
The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
Essential Functions:
1.
Implements case management services (including individual counseling); monitors student/family progress; and makes referrals to other professional staff members or community agencies as needed.
2.
Serves as a liaison between assigned schools and such agencies as social services, juvenile court services, and the police and/or sheriff’s departments.
3.
Works with school personnel in identifying at risk students who are not performing well due to their home environment and factors related to it.
4.
Makes home visits and other contacts with parents as appropriate, mediates differences, advocates for students, and seeks relevant family information as needed.
5.
Maintains confidentiality of student and family information.
6.
Attends and participates in school-level parent-teacher meetings regarding problems with academics, health, behavior, social, and/or emotional situations as requested.
7.
Assists with student crisis situations, as necessary.
8.
Maintains contact logs and documents all appropriate information.
9.
Submits accurate paperwork in a punctual manner.
10.
Consult/Collaborate with DFCS and medical/mental health staff to best meet needs of student.
11.
Connect families with outside resources (e.g., therapeutic organizations, food banks, medical agencies, such as dentists, etc.).
12.
Provides consultation to administration, teachers, and other special staff on matters pertaining to students' background, living conditions and social needs, which may affect their school attendance, and functioning.
13.
Assists with student crisis situations as necessary
