Position Title: Education Intern 

Department: Education, Early Learning Team

Classification: Temporary, Part-Time (20-40 hours), Non-Exempt 

Reports to: Director, Early Learning Partnerships    

Location: Los Angeles (Remote)

Compensation: $17.50/hour

JOB OVERVIEW 

The Education Department at Public Media Group of Southern California (PBS SoCal | KCET) seeks an intern to join our Early Learning Team. This role will focus on developing new resources related to our programming and initiatives for families and children ages 2-8, with a specific focus on developing digital materials and planning family events. This internship is remote with occasional in-person team meetings. 

 

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with the early learning landscape by researching existing programming and initiatives
  • Review internal curricula and guiding frameworks  
  • Develop new materials that build on existing curricula and frameworks  
  • Create project briefs; work with multiple departments, including Digital, Creative Services, and Marketing, to see a project from start to finish 
  • Edit and refine materials as needed
  • Shadow Early Learning team members in workshops and cross-functional meetings 
  • Assist with coordination of Summer projects and initiatives, including Zooms, webinars, events, data entry, materials, etc.
  • Attend team meeting when possible and schedule allows 

 

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and/or families
  • Knowledge of early childhood development not necessary but preferred 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate short and long-term projects 
  • Self-directed and able to take initiative 
  • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus

 

Physical Demands 

While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is also required to stand and walk.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

Work Environment

The working conditions are primarily a general office or home setting.  However, the position may require off-site travel as necessary. Depending on the position, job duties, and subject to the discretion of the company, the position may be telecommuting eligible in whole or part.
