The Plant Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing techniques to drive plant reliability, control equipment performance and consistently achieve high standards of maintenance program performance. This position will implement lean methodologies and suitable courses of action to proactively drive plant and equipment reliability. This individual's responsibilities encompass all phases of the production process including facilities, equipment, utilities, methods, and operating procedures. The Plant Engineer is also responsible for managing the performance of an hourly, unionized work force through the scheduling of work assignments and follow-up of assignments for the assigned maintenance staff.

- Plans, organizes, and directs maintenance operations to improve the reliability of the manufacturing operations by creating a culture of excellence and driving a high level of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) performance. Manages maintenance resources including labor, materials, and vendor services to continually improve productivity
- Oversees the utility systems within the facility, including power sources, climate control, water, and lighting. Ensures all systems are working at optimum efficiency
- Partners with Operations Management to develop annual capital and maintenance expense budgets; manages controllable costs against budget and in relation to changes in production or volume. Has full responsibility for planning, monitoring, and managing departmental budget
- Responsible for managing union production employees
- Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of the Maintenance staff
- Responsible for facility Preventative and Predictive Maintenance programs
- Ensures maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with quality policies, as well as in accordance with company safety practices and related local, state, and federal safety / environmental regulations
- Coordinates & supervises contractors as needed
- Conduct process assessment and problem solving as assigned
- Supervises staff who are hazardous waste generators
- Oversees the packaging of hazardous waste generated by the maintenance department
- Assists in waste characterization of maintenance generated waste
- Ensures that contractors are following hazardous waste regulations
- Reports any spills or emergency situations to the HSE department
- Participates in annual hazardous waste and biennial DOT (Department of Transportation) training
- Perform other tasks as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline Required Work Experience
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills Preferred Education & Experience
- 5 to 7 years of experience in Maintenance/Plant Management
- Experience in capital project management, handling vendors and contractors
- Experience working in a unionized environment
