Position Summary:
The Front-End Web Developer is a part of the Web Marketing team and is responsible and accountable for analyzing, developing and building new features and functionality in support of our public-facing school websites. This position works with other cross-functional members of the web development team to provide front end development capabilities, web content management system maintenance and production support, mobile first optimization, testing & QA, and site performance optimization. The team overall is responsible for design, development, and maintenance of various websites, with a specific emphasis on usability, performance, and scalability. A desire to solve old problems in new ways and think in terms of scalability, efficiency, and practicality are a must. We are looking for an inspired, mission-driven web developer, who can break down the world into objects and classes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop rich site features and functionality for public-facing websites across multiple brands to advance the customer digital experience.
- Create solutions that adhere to industry best practices and company coding standards while ensuring best cross-browser/device compatibility.
- Aid in the design and architecture development of new functionality to ensure business requirements are met.
- Create web/UI experiences for A/B testing programs and site personalization initiatives.
- Collaborate with UX and technology partners in the organization to translate UI/UX wireframes and designs into actual code using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to achieve a final Web product.
- Build and maintain templates within the CMS framework that follow web & SEO best practices.
- Triage, troubleshoot, and find solutions to complex problems, and then implement those solutions.
- Optimize front-end code to ensure best performance, efficiency, and page speed.
- Learn, evaluate, and recommend new technologies that enhance our web product offering and meet business challenges.
- Participate in team agile ceremonies such as daily standups, refinement, and planning.
- Perform quality assurance self-checks and troubleshoot issues prior to release in testing and production environments to ensure code quality and integrity.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline with 3-5 years of software/web UI engineering experience of similar scope
- Experience with Java Script Tool kits (Angular, JQuery, etc.), CSS, HTML, Java required
- Experience developing websites within an enterprise-level web content management system framework, utilizing components & templates; Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) preferred
- Experience working in a Scrum-Agile environment Familiarity with Git, JIRA, and other collaboration tools
- Demonstrated understanding of Web standards (W3C) and accessibility (WCAG 2.1) required / 508 compliance for web applications
- Experience working from prototyping tools such as Adobe XD, Invision, Sketch, or Figma
- Familiarity and understanding of responsive design techniques
- Prior experience developing web features in A/B testing and/or site personalization tools (Google Optimize)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Self-starter who is continuously driven to improve their work product
- A team player with an eye for detail
