Pearson is seeking an IP Paralegal to join our Global IP Trademark Legal Team. Our work is challenging and offers an excellent opportunity for a skilled paralegal to advance their career. In this role, you will be working for one of the largest educational, assessment and publishing corporations in the world. This position also offers the opportunity to work with some of Pearson’s most well-known brands, alongside other dedicated professionals on a wide variety of intellectual property legal matters. As an IP Paralegal, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day support to our Senior Counsel, IP and Legal Teams and business clients across marketing, product development, Rights & Permissions, and corporate functions in the area of trademarks, copyrights, domain names and advertising/marketing. Key duties and responsibilities include: managing trademark, copyright and related IP assets of Pearson and its operating units throughout the world and assisting with clearance, protection, enforcement, risk mitigation, licensing, litigation and M&A matters. The IP Paralegal is also responsible for directing outside counsel as needed, supporting the budget and reporting process as requested and providing other assistance and support as needed.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position you will:
- Manage our trademark docketing system and prepare portfolio and related reports;
- Prepare and submit new trademark applications and other trademark prosecution and adverse filing documents online using the USPTO, TTAB and WIPO filing systems as well as international renewal filing systems as available;
- Conduct and analyze trademark availability, clearance and validity searches using various search platforms, including Saegis, Corsearch, TESS and TrademarkNow.
- Investigate potential infringement of Pearson copyright and trademarks and provide litigation support to attorneys for adverse matters.
- Assist with M&A transactions and related IP due diligence;
- Attend to notarization and legalization of trademark documents;
- Support domain name acquisition, divestment and enforcement through transfers and dispute resolution and recovery proceedings related to gTLD and ccTLD extensions, including drafting UDRP documents;
- Investigate and file DMCA take down requests
- Manage and maintain digital and physical filing systems and records;
- Manage matter creation, data input and databases for contracts, brands, matters, billing (Legal Tracker system), and others as required;
- Act as liaison for the department with finance and vendors, including outside counsel, handling invoices and expenses;
- Participate in team and department meetings; and
- Perform a variety of project-related and administrative duties to support the Global IP Trademark Legal team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A high school degree or equivalent (Bachelors preferred but may be offset by additional years of experience);
- At least 5 years related experience as a trademark paralegal;
- Working knowledge of domestic and international trademark and copyright laws and regulations;
- Experience with trademark docketing required;
- Legal drafting experience (applications, office actions, etc.);
- High proficiency in frequently used software programs (MS Word, Excel, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Google Sheets, Outlook, Google Mail, SharePoint) and familiarity with simple database and file management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with trademark docketing management tools, including WebTMS, and e-billing systems, such as Legal Tracker, are a plus.

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, Pearson provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only, the range of starting pay for this role is $55,000 and up. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program, and information on benefits is offered here.
