Job Summary:
Support the General Counsel and Legal Department as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Create draft, review, and advise all departments on a wide variety of contracts, monitor contract database for quality and accuracy, monitor contract compliance, and data entry as needed.
- Obtain and ensure compliance with all licenses and permits required in the operation of the company, including special events.
- Have working knowledge of applicable statutes and regulations.
- Assist with applications for insurance policies, maintain familiarity with issued policies, and investigate and respond to insurance claims.
- Assist in investigation and management of all litigation matters.
- Assign, assist, and manage appropriate outside counsel as necessary.
- Represent company at trial, arbitration, mediation, agency hearings, union grievance hearings, or internal review process as necessary.
- Provide advice to company on a wide variety of labor and employment issues, conduct investigations, draft agency responses, coordinate and assist with training, ensure compliance with all current labor and employment-related statutes and case law.
- Review and respond to questions and correspondence from residents on various property-related issues.
- Research and draft clear, concise, grammatically correct, and legally compliant documents and communications to internal clients, outside agencies, outside counsel, insurance carriers, residents, and others, often on short notice.
- Research, draft, and review real estate transactions, to include leases, easements, purchase and sale agreements, and financing agreements.
- Advise all departments on legal and corporate compliance issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Juris doctorate required.
- Active membership in California state bar.
- Minimum five years legal experience.
- Must be competent in Word, Excel, Outlook, and general database management.
- Appropriately prioritize a multitude of varied tasks and assignments in rapidly changing environment with minimal supervision while meeting all deadlines.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, analytical skills, and ability to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and positions.
- Effective written, oral, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure and time sensitive environment.
- Valid California driver’s license.
