Laundry Aide

Schedule:

• 2pm-10pm, off days are Friday and Saturday; Full-time
• 10pm-6am

Applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check. Experience with developmental disabilities is a plus!

Responsibilities and Duties:

Washes and dries personal clothing, linens, towels, and other articles using household washers and dryers and commercial dryers. Sorts, folds and/or hangs cleaned items as appropriate. Picks up soiled clothing, linens and towels from the living units periodically for washing. Performs other duties as directed.

• Collect and sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc. and place in appropriate containers and/or assigned areas.
• Sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc. according to types of fabric. color and separates those items that require special stain removal/treatment.
• Wash soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., as established by our operating policies and procedures and as instructed by your supervisor to ensure washers and dryers are not overloaded.
• Fold, stack, separate, hang and distribute clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., by module.
• During emergency conditions, ensure that clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., are distributed to designated areas.
• Report all incidents/accidents, no matter how minor, to your supervisor immediately.
• Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible
• Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc, to your supervisor immediately.
• Ensure linen supplies have been replenished in assigned work areas as necessary.
• Ensure that work/laundry schedules are followed as outlined by respective shift/area.
• Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs.
• Assure that work areas are cleaned, equipment, supplies and laundry are properly stored before leaving at the end of workday.
• Keep your work area free of hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, excess laundry carts, baskets, supplies, equipment, etc., to assure that all established safety rules/regulations are followed/maintained at all times.
• Follow and maintain established procedures on cross-contamination, infectious material, etc., to assure that the highest degree of cleanliness and sanitation is maintained at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Stands and walks short distances most of the day.
• Bends, lifts, carries, pushes and pulls while performing assigned duties.
• Must function independently, have flexibility, and be able to work effectively with other personnel.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Must have working knowledge of domestic laundry processes, equipment, and procedures for washing linens of various degrees of soil, and blankets with varying wool content.
• Understands function of various soaps, bleach, softeners, and other chemicals employed in washing and rinsing.
• Must know method of loading machine.
• Recognizes colors that will fade from fast colors and can distinguish between cotton and wool synthetics.
• Must be familiar with proper heat to apply to certain fabrics to prevent damaging material.
