Summary/Objective:
The role of the Registered Nurse (RN) in pediatrics partners with and compliments the physician or nurse practitioner. The RN will assess patients’ conditions, record medical histories and symptoms and working under the guidance of the physician or nurse practitioner. The RN will provide initial care, identify changes in children’s symptoms and intervene when necessary.
Description of Duties:
Obtains a history of the presenting health issue(s). o Performs a comprehensive and focused health assessment that includes health history and complete physical evaluation; considers the patient’s psychosocial, emotional, ethnic, cultural and spiritual dimensions of health, including his or her understanding of their health/illness experience and how their daily life is affected.- Administer medications, draw blood, and give childhood vaccinations following age-appropriate guidelines
- Monitor temperature, pulse, breathing, and blood pressure and keep accurate records
- Evaluate children for signs and symptoms of abuse
- Deal with the anxieties and demands of parents and help families deal with their child’s illness or injury
- Remain up to date on the latest developments, rules and regulations, drug therapies, equipment and treatment procedures

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Proven work experience as a Pediatric Nurse or similar role- A bachelor’s or associate’s degree in nursing
- Experience in clinical work as a pediatric nurse
- Good communication skills
- Emotional and mental strength, dedication and self-motivation
- Empathy and the ability to relate to children
- Relevant training and/or certifications as a Pediatric Nurse
- Ability to elicit information needed to make brief evaluation.
Ability to work closely with physicians and other clinicians as needed.
Education and experience:
RN degree; BSN or MSN degree preferred.- Minimum five (2) years of experience as RN
- Current state RN license
- Current BLS certificate

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds. This is a mostly sedentary position, hand/arm injury possible from repetitive movements. Stress generated if high volume of calls and emergencies.
