Cost Accounting Manager

Our Client
Our client is a producer of natural gas and oil in Western Canada. They're approximately 70 in headcount, have just had a record setting year and are growing astronomically in terms of revenue/profit/headcount. However, our client is not just specifically focused on the Oil & Gas sector, they're actively venturing into a new industry which is vertical farming and that's where this role comes in.

The Opportunity

Based on the recent acquisition of a large industrial park in BC, this position will be working very closely with the execute team to build out processes, develop costs/budgets and be instrumental in taking this new venture to life. Reporting directly Operations Controller, this role provides the opportunity to be involved in a full range of responsibilities including the following:

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the full cycle accounting for a multi-functional industrial park including financial, commercial and operation accounting.
• Building structure for the new department alongside the executive team
• Manage Company's accounting policies, research and provide technical accounting guidelines.
• Manage and maintain operational procedures to support accounting operations.
• Preparation of budget and budget comparisons to actuals.
• Predicts, plans, and records variable costs such as purchases of raw material, labor, and operation costs.
• Reviews, analyzes, and reports actual profit margins.
• Monthly depreciation calculations.
• Review accounts receivable invoicing and collection with monthly AR status report.
• Manage active leases and invoicing in accordance with active lease agreements.
• Monthly account reconciliations.
• Project cost tracking.

Education/Experience

• Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related discipline (CPA a big bonus)
• 8 years of related accounting experience.
  
• Strong background in Cost/Project Accounting (WIP, Variance Analysis, etc...)
• Intermediate excel skills. (V-Lookups, Pivot Tables, IF AND statements)
• Experience utilizing various ERP systems and Project management software
• Comfortable working hands on and establishing process
• Open to travelling to BC once every couple of months
