SADOD Direct Care Service Provider Program Development Associate/Group Facilitator

Peer Support Community Partners (PSCP) is a leader in developing and maintaining peer grief support as an effective field of practice. PSCP’s SADOD (Support After
Death by Overdose) program is funded by the Massachusetts Bureau of Substance and
Addiction Services and is focused on increasing the capacity and effectiveness of peer grief support in Massachusetts for people affected by a death from substance use (not only overdose, but also from suicide, homicide, accident, and medical complications due to drug use).

SADOD’s Direct Care Service Provider Division is developing peer grief support for people working on the frontlines of the substance use epidemic, acknowledging that the level of loss that people in this work experience is incredibly high and continues to grow exponentially. The Program Development Associates/Group Facilitators will have an exciting opportunity to be a part of designing and delivering the peer grief supports that direct care service providers are seeking.

Duties and Responsibilities

The job of the Program Development Associates/Group Facilitators will involve three phases with different core responsibilities:

Phase I: In the initial months this role will involve participating in the program design and development of trainings, a support group model, and online resources for supporting direct care service providers working with people who use drugs.

  • Assist in developing trainings
  • Manage and deliver trainings
  • Assist in the development of a peer grief support group model
  • Develop and moderate social media presence and virtual resources for direct care service providers
  • Project Management Work as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Phase II: The primary responsibilities will shift to delivery of the trainings, facilitation of the group pilot group, and ongoing maintenance of the online/social media resources.

  • Recruit participants for and facilitate pilot session of peer grief support group
  • Manage and deliver trainings
  • Ongoing development and moderation of social media presence and virtual resources for direct care service providers
  • Project Management Work as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Phase III: After the pilot phase, the role will involve ongoing facilitation of trainings and groups, and online resources as well as recruiting, training, and managing other peer group facilitators to offer additional groups.

  • Recruit, train, and manage other peer group facilitators
  • Recruit participants for and facilitate pilot session of peer grief support group
  • Manage and deliver trainings
  • Ongoing development and moderation of social media presence and virtual resources for direct care service providers
  • Project Management Work as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

The Program Development Associate & Group Facilitator must exhibit many varied skills and qualifications. Communications and decision-making are paramount. Specific qualifications include:

  • Lived experience as a peer in direct care service delivery to people who use drugs

(in substance use treatment, homeless services, or other similar)

  • An interest and lived experience in grief and loss in the workplace
  • Well-versed in and comfortable with a range of social media and virtual platforms
  • Knowledgeable of and open to all paths to substance use recovery (including non- abstinent Harm Reduction)
  • Experience with facilitating groups and leading trainings
  • Decision-making: Make independent decisions daily, addressing the best way to handle specific tasks
  • Communications and collaboration: Regularly collaborate with other administrators and support personnel, management, and collaborators
  • Organizational skills: Organization and prioritization are core elements of the position, including being organized to keep others organized and determining which tasks are the most important in a given list
  • Writing: Spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, and writing are essential, as is proficiency in various styles, from creative to professional to technical to educational, etc.
  • Computer Skills: Google suite, Office suite

Pay range: $25-$30/hour
