POSITION OVERVIEW
The Casualty Specialist investigates, adjusts, and settles medical payment and PIP claims. This position determines coverage and damages; and exercises independent discretion and judgment on claim handling.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Handles claims from the desk that involve liability losses for medical payment and PIP claims
- Responsible for ensuring Medicare requirements have been met
- Establishes contact with policyholders and claimants regarding casualty claims
- Investigates and evaluates first party medical payment coverage claims
- Reviews attorney medical payment demand packages in the assessment of their injury claims
- Handles telephone inquiries on claim status and coverage
- Completes appropriate oral, written, and on-line reports to reflect and supplement all file activity
- Sets and maintains adequate reserves on claim files
- Obtains and reviews reports, statements, records, and related materials as necessary
- Uses independent discretion/judgment and sound decision-making in the handling of claims
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Required
- Typically requires 1-3 years of industry experience
Preferred or Specialized
- Bachelor’s degree
- Prior bodily injury casualty claims handling experience
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
- Industry accepted Claims designations preferred
