PenFed is hiring a Refinance Partners Underwriting Team Lead at one of the following locations:Omaha, Nebraska; San Antonio, Texas; and Eugene, Oregon. The primary purpose of this job is to oversee the daily operation of assigned loan queues and the daily operations of assigned Consumer Lending staff. Performs the duties of the Senior Manager, Consumer Lending in the manager’s absence.
Responsibilities

- Supervise the Refi Partner team on a daily basis to include establishing goals, priorities, and expected performance level of the team.
- Manage relationships with Refinance Partner contacts, internal stakeholders, and Processing partners.
- Administer stated objectives, goals, and performance standards for Underwriters on assigned team.
- Oversee and mentor all staff to ensure adequate training and performance is achieved.
- Provide input to the Senior Manager, Consumer Lending regarding hiring staff and managing job performance on a regular basis, including probationary and annual evaluations and the administration of disciplinary actions.
- Prepare and distribute various production reports.
- Research and resolve complex member problems within delegated authority, including, but not limited to exception requests and referring consumer loan applications to the Loan Review Committee as appropriate.
- Maintain a detailed knowledge of the job responsibilities of the Refinance Partner Underwriting and Processing team; perform those duties as needed throughout the day.
- Review and approves correspondence related to consumer loan applications returned by Executive Correspondence/Loan Review Committee.
- Provide training and guidance to peers, direct reports, Operations, and other PenFed staff related to Consumer Lending practices.
- Assume the duties and responsibility of the manager when the manager is unavailable.
- Maintain industry knowledge around emerging best practices and trends in the consumer underwriting field, especially as it pertains to auto lending trends.
- Discover opportunities to recommend changes that will streamline processes, improve efficiency and push the business forward.
- Assist with maintaining PenFed’s compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations and ordinances by abiding by PenFed compliance program and all policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Qualifications
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience Underwriting consumer loans required.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in financial services, or, two (2) years’ experience supervising/managing employees, is required.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a fraud mitigation or financial security role.
- Knowledge of industry best practices around lending, loan processing & underwriting.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position will direclty supervise employees
Licenses and Certifications
- Must successfully complete Pentagon Federal Loan Officer Training Program.
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification preferred.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.
*Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*
Travel
Limited travel to various worksites is required.
